Most states, and the fed, tax on a per-gallon basis, so the tax on 10 gallons is the same, regardless of price.

And then there are states like Illinois where Gas is taxed at the State, County and Municipal level IN ADDITION TO having a state sales tax on every gallon of gasoline, which in effect "taxes the taxes" on every gallon of gasoline sold here.

Bastards here double-dip!

I think one of the reasons they are liking hybrids is that they use the hybrid e-motor and battery to crank the engine, no small starter reqd.

I do know they are totally rigorous about shutting the engine off at every stop. This must be the result of bad things that happened years ago.

UPS has those replaced starters rebuilt in Murrieta, CA, at my brother’s former plant (he managed it until retiring last year). You’re correct, they replace them aggressively.

For them, getting stuck in somebody’s driveway screws up the whole day.

We worked with them on transmissions, they are quite sharp when it comes to fleet management, maintenance, etc. They calculate their cost/mile down to several places.

Teamsters union labor, but they work them hard.

OK. I would appreciate a description of how you would go about making $100k on $20k by trading crude oil futures. Out of curiosity mainly.

I got that idea from my brother. The reason they stuck with him was that he invented a machining method to reduce the failure rate on remanufactured starters to such a low level that his product was nearly completely reliable. That is, "like-new." That near-zero failure rate was everything to UPS, as you indicated.

I have been thinking that refineries in WA could possibly set their own price for gasoline for the west coast because they set a higher price in What I’m county due to the Canadian traffic. If the companies can do it here, why not elsewhere?

Only a few states (CA is one) include sales tax on top of the price.

CT is another, that's where it hurts.

Sometime I would like to talk to you about what was going on here in Whatcom County, that I inadvertently exposed by asking questions in the Bellinham Herald comment section. It led to the defunding and reorganiization of the Puget Sound Partnership. It was totally illegal and involved BP and and the developers of the Gateway Pacific Coal terminal.

By the way, did you know that the new GPT backer is the top lieutenant of Carlos Slim? ... and the Republicans are still supporting the project. The man’s name is Fernando Chico Pardo. Here’s a link to an article about Carlos that mentions Fernando Chico Pardo.
