Two suspects are in custody after Springdale Police said they robbed C & S Gun and Pawn shop at gun-point Saturday morning (Dec. 6). According to police, the owner of the shop shot one of the suspects.

Police said 25-year-old Marcus Gould and 20-year-old Leon Roberson are in custody after attempting to rob the store carrying semi-automatic pistols. They said the owner, Shirley Cornett, pulled out her .38 revolver and shot Gould in the arm as he was jumping over the counter towards her husband, Clint.

Well it was a gun and Pawn store and it was run by two old white privilege crackah’s so how hard could it be? Guess the black intimidation factor didn’t work for the perps.

Yeah the hoodies were a dead giveaway and momma knew to have her gun hand ready. Too bad she didn’t kill one or both animals. Nice shooting though considering the moving targets

Took a little searching to find just where this Springfield is. I swear, I think every doggone state in the union has a city/town named Springfield.

I am probably going against the grain here, but I am glad Shirley Cornett did not kill one of the little pukes.
Right or wrong, taking a human life weighs very heavy on your conscience.

Good shooting Mrs Cornett.

I didn’t see Homer Simpson anywhere in sight. Or is that Springfield. Yeah, I don’t think she wants to live with that. Then again, she may be type that can live with it and be at peace knowing she may have just saved her husband’s life. In any case, glad they are okay.

She *might* have made a common error that every gun defender needs to be aware of. When you fire, keep firing. That is, the natural tendency is to fire a round, then pause while looking to see what happened. Do not do this.

She did put a bullet in him, but in that fraction of a second when she should have fired again, she might have paused, giving him a chance to shoot back. And had those books not been there, her injury would have been much worse, even fatal.

This is why when police get in a gunfight, they are trained to keep shooting without even thinking about it. Of course this often looks bad, after the fact, but the police are still alive, and the other gunman is dead or severely wounded.

Too many involved in assessing the scene after the fact don’t consider the fact that folks trained properly in the use of arms don’t necessarily shoot to kill. You want to stop the threat. And we know that doesn’t mean shooting the gun out of their hands. Then again, in the moment, someone may be firing faster than the brain can comprehend there is no longer a threat. Especially with about 20 gallons of adrenelin(sp?) pumping through your blood stream.

Did you look at the video? It’s at the link

She fired three shots rapid fire then ducked behind the counter. She hit a moving target and kept firing till she felt the threat to her had changed. The perp was concerned with the husband who the perp felt was the bigger threat. Never underestimate a little old lady with a revolver.

“...folks trained properly in the use of arms don’t necessarily shoot to kill.”

That is what you tell the judge. In a gunfight you must intend to kill, because bullets are no guarantee of disabling injury. And if they are armed, you likely lose fast, even if they lose slow. This is one reason why I always carry a knife as a complement to a gun.

And, you NEVER say you weren’t if fear for your life. EVER! I knew of an honest guy who didn’t follow that rule and ended up in the big house because of it.

Like the “stans” in southeastern Europe, there are a bunch of “fields” in NJ.

Once on a business trip I exited Rt. 22 and pulled into Springfield, NJ for a coffee. It was mid to late May, and everything was in bloom! The azaleas and dogwoods and everything else....I was slackjawed at the beauty. That was 40 years ago but it still stands out in my memory.

I didn’t see the other two shots, so you are correct, and so was she. But indirectly it still justifies shooting multiple times. 3 shots, 1 hit, at very close range. And the perp was still able to return accurate fire. Deadly, except for luck.

Once you get away form Newark and the tri-state mess, NJ is really a very pretty place. Out towards Boonton is nice.
