Growing divide among Senate Republicans on spending bill?
FOX News ^ | December 13, 2014

WASHINGTON – Republican aren’t mincing words about some in their own party as the political divide grows and the deadline to pass a spending bill nears.

Heading into a rare Saturday session, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell told Fox News he was surprised that GOP Sens. Ted Cruz of Texas and Mike Lee of Utah went over his head Friday night and help up a vote on the $1.1 trillion spending bill.

A senior GOP source lashed out at Cruz and Lee, calling the move “hamfisted” and “amateurish.”

Sen. Majority Leader Harry Reid told reporters that he was surprised by Cruz and Lee.

On Friday night, the two Republican lawmakers demanded a vote on a proposal to cut funds from the bill that could be used to implement President Obama's new immigration policy, ending any chance the measure could clear the Senate and be sent to the White House with a minimum of fuss.

Officials in both parties said the bill remains on track for clearance by early next week. Even so, the move led Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., to abandon plans to adjourn the Senate for the weekend, and raised the possibility of a test vote on the spending bill shortly after midnight on Saturday.

Where is Senator Rand Paul on supporting Cruz, Lee and Sessions? He seems to want less conflict with the party bosses since he is eying a Presidential run in 2016.

Shoot, where are the statements from Governor Scott Walker, and Governor Huckabee, etc.

All the supposed conservative GOP POTUS wannabes are silent.

Yeah, the divide is the republicans insisting that they can bend over even further, and the democrats telling them that they don’t need to...

Oh, hell no. They should bend over and give Obama everything he wants. No way should they challenge Obama’s unconstitutional amnesty, nor defund it, nor challenge or defund Obamacare. Doesn’t matter if the country goes to hell as a result.

A travesty for all that have fought and died for this country.

As the troubled and crooked path of the Cromnibus bill indicates, Mitch McConnell is finding the GOP Senate caucus and its soon to be majority fractious and poorly responsive to his leadership. This cannot be good for an older man with a history of heart problems.

While McConnell is desperate to cut a deal and get out of town, Cruz, Lee, Paul, and a handful of other genuine conservative members want to fight and maneuver so as to capitalize on the new weakness of Obama and the Democrats. The conservative Senate bloc looks forward to the 2016 elections and the glittering prizes of the Presidency and a chance to change to direction of national politics and policy.

Although McConnell would prefer otherwise, he will soon find himself be dragged along and forced to join the fight. The current slams in the press on Cruz and Lee from GOP Senate leaders and colleagues are the whining of old men who are being forced to prepare for political battle. Six months from now, they will be fully engaged and telling war stories.

I really doubt that he was surprised. Cruz has been going over his head since day one in the senate. Cruz has even been going over Boehner’s head.

you're right. It was your mistake, and if you are not going to pay attention, feel free to check with me before you post something as silly as accusing Senator Cruz of Brinkmanship when all of the available evidence speaks otherwise.

Amen, why is it so hard for some to do the logical right thing for the nation?

Maybe it isn't the nation they're looking out for.

"Hamfisted"?

"Amateurish"?

GOPe, go F, dash, dash, dash yourselves.

Jim, I don't know what is going on to organize the next rally in D.C. (read as: the old thread you bumped to the front page a few weeks back), but I am so friggen there.

We need to do it when Congress is in session, though... otherwise the Guillotine and scaffold we set up in the middle of the Mall won't have the intended effect.

Stutzman is too dumb to have a political career. Better find something else where he actually thinks a person’s word is good

I goofed. I named the wrong person, it should have been Marjory Margolies Mezvinski, not Judith Margolis Mezvinsk. I regret the error.
