Chuck Schumer: Elizabeth Warren is no Ted Cruz

Sen. Chuck Schumer came to the defense of Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren on Sunday, saying critics should not compare her to Tea Party icon Sen. Ted Cruz.

“I think the soul of the Democratic Party is economic issues, and on economic issues, we are united,” Schumer said on CNN’s “State of the Union.” “And Elizabeth Warren is constructive. She’s not like Ted Cruz, ‘Shut down the government’ or ‘Don’t fund things if I don’t get my way.’ "

Warren, a Massachusetts Democrat, has been criticized in some circles within her own party for leading the charge against a $1.1 trillion spending bill that had the backing of the White House. Warren and other progressives railed against provisions that would undo parts of the Dodd-Frank Act and chip away at campaign finance laws.

Let's see what happens in three weeks when the Dems are in the minority and their main tool will be the filibuster.

Yep, right on point. There are plenty of Democrats in the midwest, south, and mountain west regions of this country who have nothing in common with the east coast establishment that runs their party. Same like us. They’ve stayed loyal to their party and frankly haven’t had an excuse to vote for the Republican candidate for president because that person has been more or less like the Democrat. I hope Cruz or Walker have that kind of crossover appeal because so many Americans, regardless of party, just want a leader who can take control of the runaway mess in this country.

Rick Santorum did exceptionally well in Michigan by reaching out to blue collar conservatives. He made it a tie race with Romney when McCain struggled to stay within 10 points of Romney here in 08.

Cruz should take that page from Santorum’s strategy book and use it to talk about easing the regulatory burden and and the factory floor level taxes. He can come up with a viable plan to attract business back to the USA and the blue collar crowd will respond to it.

Also a good in depth study of Reagan’s 1980 nomination speech is a must. It was an inspirational speech where none was really required but Reagan believed it and lived it.

And I think the conservative and sane center Democrat voters are coming around to that. Daniel Greenfield wrote an epic article a couple of weeks ago titled The Vanishing White Democrat: a must-read.

No sh*t, Schmuckie?

Not to put too fine a point on it, but Lizzie Warren is utterly incapable of carrying Ted Cruz's intellectual jockstrap. In fact, she can't even lift it. In comparison to Liz Warren's stunted pygmy-like stature, Ted Cruz is a towering giant.

Does that clear it up for you, Schmuckie?

I thought it might.

...the soul of the Democratic Party is economic issues

Yes. Your core economic tenet is all means of production should be owned by the State and there should be no private property ownership. There is no other possible explanation for your party's behavior the past 60 years.

We were angry when Obama exploited our ignorance of his healthcare law to promise that ‘’if we liked our doctors, we could keep our doctors,’’ and then found out that we couldn’t.

So why aren’t we also angry at Ted Cruz for using our ignorance of Senatorial ‘’points of order’’ over the past few days to promise that he could hold up the CRomnibus bill so that it might be voted on by the new Republican Senate next year, but then failed to do so?

The problem for Ted Cruz and his followers is that Ted Cruz is not Elizabeth Warren.

Elizabeth Warren came to Washington because she had a particular area of expertize — financial law — that was needed after the Wall Street crash to help create what became the Dodd-Frank bill. After that, she was elected to the Senate, where she found out last week that her law was so effective in curbing Wall Street’s excesses that Wall Street successfully lobbied to include a retraction of the law in the CRomnibus bill. Which made her extremely angry and led her to successfully attract a significant number of fellow Democrats who joined her in opposing the bill.

Then there’s Ted Cruz. He has no particular area of legal expertize that has helped anyone do anything constructive during his Senatorial career. Instead, he’s principally known for shutting down the government — an act which has engendered a great deal of hatred towards him and the Tea Party he’s associated with, from Democrats, RINOs, and the media.

Meanwhile, among Republican presidential hopefuls, he’s supported by only 5.8% of Republican voters, considerably less that his fellow Conservative Ben Carson’s 9%, and also less than Conservatives Rick Perry and Scott Walker.

On the other hand, Elizabeth Warren is the top non-Hillary choice of the Democrats, with 11% support.

Ted Cruz should get out of the spotlight, since every time Democrats, Independents, and 94% of Republicans see him they’re reminded again why they don’t like him and what he stands for.
