If a few American Indians get their indignation up over Red Skins and “our guilty, morally superior betters” cave on this, just wait until the muslims get rolling. There is nothing that muslims are not offended by.

But I would not even allow my kids to attend a school whose mascot is a devil much less root for the team

the old Southwest High School in Fort Worth were the Rebels.
mascot was a Confederate cavalry officer.
large black student body — name and mascot have to go, racist.
Now the school is (or was the Cavaliers)and mascot was dressed as a 17th century English cavalry officer.
I never could figure out why they did that. It cost a lot of money essential for a minor semantic change.
