Hitler the drug addict: How he used a cocktail of drugs including cocaine to make him a ‘Nazi superman’

Hitler was a manic depressive hypochrondriac with deformed genitals, according to a National Geographic documentary
Medical documents show Hitler’s top physician fed him 80 drugs a day, including rat poison, amphetamines, bull semen and morphine
He also allegedly snorted powdered cocaine to ‘clear his sinuses and soothe his throat’

Yes. Saw this last night on Nat Geo...and other programs as well.

Amazing Hitler did not die from an OD when you consider all of the drugs Dr. Morell was administering to him.

The Germans seemed to have a very stubborn commander at Dunkirk. At this point, with Antwerp and the other Channel ports open there didn’t seem to be any reason to waste troops in a frontal assault.

In these cutoff situations you have to wonder how the surrounded German troops were able to supplied with food and ammo and other supplies.

A couple of points regards your post. From reading several books on the Bulge recently IMO the 2 things that did in the Germans were:

1st the American soldier, there were very few incidents of GI’s “Buggin Out”. Yes traffic back to the west was chaotic but this wa s primarily support units that were trying to get out of the Germans way. Almost to a man the front line GIs stood and fought until they were either destroyed, overrun or forced to pull back. It was these countless for the most part small unit actions, quite often against long odds, in the first few days that disrupted the Germans timetable.

2nd the Germans were bit hard by the logistics bug. The road net in the Ardennes would not support the Germans’s plans unless every little thing went there way. See point 1 above. Also ammunition and fuel were stored to far to the rear with lack of available transport to move it forward in a timely manner. The Germans units started out with at most 2 basic loads of fuel and ammo. The fuel was burned up idling on the clogged roads and the ammo was used up by the stubborn GIs that did not know they were supposed to bug out before the might if the German army.

The Germans had about 8 days of bad flying weather that limited the Allies tactical air arm but once the skies cleared it was Katie bar the door! The Allies Tac Air swarmed over the battlefield and made a bad situation for the Germans terrible.

Regards the King Tiger tank to quote that great American philosopher Moriarty “it’s a piece of crap”. It was tremendous fuel hog needing about 3 gallons of fuel to go a mile, mechanically unreliable and to big and heavy for the bulk of the road net in the Ardennes.

The King Tiger was the perfect example of Hitler and the Germans fascination with big ol weapons! For all the effort put into 1 King Tiger the Germans could have fielded 3 o4 4 of the Pzkpw Mk IV tanks. The Mk IV was equal to if not better than the US Sherman and the more tanks the better, eh?

To digress along the same lines for all the trouble that the Germans went to bring down 1 round of ammo for the Anzio Anne 11” railway guns they could have supplied 10 to 15 rounds of 100 mm ammo to their field artillery batteries.

Regards

I read someplace they were resupplying by submarine. OTOH, there was a truce where French civilians and German wounded were evacuated, so they may have left a lot of food behind.

I think Patton was largely right. Attention to detail, including cleanliness, is often the difference between life and death in a war zone. Shaving and necktie-wearing is a symbolic reminder of the importance of clean weapons, other sanitary practices, and following the routines that keep you alive.

Agree with most of what you wrote. I do think the Germans produced the most formidable tanks of WWII especially the Tiger and the Panther. Once the kinks were worked out, these were the two best tanks of WWII IMHO. As for the King Tiger, there is little doubt in mind that had the kinks been worked out and if the Germans had sufficient fuel supplies, this too would have proved to be a virtually unstoppable battlefield weapon when matched up against opposing Allied armor.

I think the offensive objectives of the German offensive were ill considered, objective being Antwerp, and cutting the Allied armies in the West in two. The Germans clearly did not have the fuel or the air support to achieve their objectives. One only wonders what could have been achieved had they possessed ample fuel supplies and strong and effective Luftwaffe support.

One could say Operation Watch on Rhine was as ill considered as Market Garden, a bridge too far.

From a propaganda standpoint, that is pretty shocking...

Certainly the correct tactical decision!

Makes me wonder how these enclaves were provisioned seemingly for months. I wonder if they were allowed basic provisions so long as they laid down their weapons and didn’t communicate tactical information back to German HQ about Allied troop movements and such.

The German tanks suffered from the problem of being unreliable. Maybe that slave labor thing has a lot to do with it.

Had the US switched the gun on the M4 Sherman to an Amercian version of the British 17 pounder the Sherman would have given a much better account of it self.

There was a study out not to long ago that claimed the Sherman got a bad rap in WW-II. I iwll have to see if I can find it.

Have to go out for a bit back later.

I cannot begin to imagine what these men went through during their imprisonment.

Thanks for posting this. It is heartbreaking. Everyone should have to read this.

I had a professor in college who was in one of those enclaves. He and his group took off on a train south after the breakout.

He said he spent the rest of the war on the beach.

I am sure there was more to it than that. But he was not a very good soldier. He was a fine arts professor. What a great guy he was. Once he started talking, it was fun to listen to stories I had heard from uncles and my father’s friends—from the other side of the line.

If you got your a$$ reamed for not shaving, imagine what the punishment would be for not cleaning your weapon.

” virtually unstoppable battlefield weapon when matched up against opposing Allied armor.”

One Typhoon with rockets would have rendered it useless. Remember the rockets were coming at an angle(top) where armor was thinnest.
One round to the treads or one mine. Then one to the engine. Done.
