I thought this was going to be about the BATTERIES, and what a horror show dealing with those things are when they need to be changed out.

Have you scanned the vehicle for radioactive contamination?

Is this a joke about the aftermath of the tsunami?

Camry hybrids destined for the US market have been built in Kentucky since 2006.

Thanks for the info.
I agree the safety issue is significant.

Website says you need year 2008 or newer.
So my 04 Caddy wouldn’t make the cut, even though it looks almost new.

Gas taxes are mainly for road maintenance, so are you saying that electric vehicle owners should not pay for road maintenance (in addition to tax and other subsidies we give them)?

And what happens to all those batteries when those cars become junk?

Lead acid batteries are almost 100% recyclable, not a good argument point....but the outrageous cost is.

Their energy value is about the same as a few gallons of gasoline.

You apparently do not understand an energy balancing equation....Tell me how much oil you have to burn in order to produce the electricity your darned car uses. It is like using corn for fuel....It takes more energy to produce the so called green energy

Plenty of items manufactured in Japan are “hot”. Importers
routinely reject them.

“Tell me how much oil you have to burn in order to produce the electricity your darned car uses.”

Very, very little. I don't suppose you have a link to a source that says otherwise?

“It is like using corn for fuel....It takes more energy to produce the so called green energy”

Not if you consider natural gas, nuclear, and hydro to be green.

You are delusional.....You apparently don’t read anything that comes close to science or engineering.

And no I won’t give you links....do your own research for a change. For years there have been articles detailing the energy costs of using methanol based fuels. When one does energy calculations you have to include all the energy values not just ‘the plug’

“And no I won’t give you links....do your own research for a change.”

What a convenient cop-out. The real reason you won't provide links is because the amount of oil used in electricity production is minuscule compared to the amount used to make gasoline, on a mile-for-mile basis.

I did, and electricity production uses very, very little oil.

If North America and Europe converted to electric cars (or extended range electric cars like the Volt), total global oil consumption would plummet. It would have a devastating impact on some of our biggest global adversaries like Russia and Iran. Other countries like Saudi Arabia and Venezuela would be in the poor house as well.

“You don’t understand total energy costs”

You don't seem to understand that electricity costs less than gasoline. And no, there aren't government subsidies lowering the cost of coal, natural gas, nuclear, and hydro electricity. You got them confused with ethanol it seems.

Well somehow you took a conversation that was about gasoline vs electricity (coal/nuclear/natural gas/hydro) and decided to make it a conversation about methanol and ethanol.

Since we seem to be talking past each other, I'll be on my way now.

You can have the last word. Peace.
