The Pope 'played a very important role' in opening up a dialogue between the United States and Cuba, says President Barack Obama. 'The Pope doesn't wield armies. He can't impose sanctions, but he can speak with great moral authority, and that makes a difference,' the U.S. president said in an interview that aired today on Good Morning America. 'And it certainly made a difference in this case,' he added.

As with Mussolini, post-Enabling Act Germany, and now the Castro brothers the Vatican gets in bed with dictators. As a Catholic, this makes me sick. I wonder if JP II is spinning around in his grave.

The problem isn’t the Catholic Church and I am not Catholic.
The problem is the reality-challenged old fool they elected Pope.

Can you impeach a Pope?

I wonder how involved they really were. You KNOW Obama will blame someone else when things go south on his unilateral criminality.

White Hut cheers as Marxist Pope helps support a murderous, torturing country.

Where is that high-quality-beer-mug's Senate Report?

"Spinning" and "grave" may not be the right words....

Is this Pope John Paul II waving from beyond the grave? Vatican TV director says yes

What did we get from Cuba. The press is trying to compare Cuba to Burma and China, but both those countries are much more liberal than Cuba...private business..freedom to travel..etc.
The Pope got zero in the way of additional human rights in Cuba..for a really big offering..a US Embassy etc.

I appreciate hearing that from a Catholic, because I am not RC, and while I was at first impressed with Francis, his appeal has waned.

This Pope stuff is nonsense. Why not demand, Francis, that Obama stop infanticide and stand for biblical marriage? Getting Obama to embrace a Communist dictator isn’t a challenge.

It’s Obama who made the deal.

He’s just using the Church for cover.

JP ii, a man of God whose faith was strong. I recall he and Terry Schiavo passed away on the same day. This pope Francis is a liberal so it should not surprise anyone. Even when Elton John praises him that says alot.

I’m starting to think so too. All the chess pieces are now gathering indicating we are in the last days.

There were concerns back in 1960 that the Antichrist would influence U.S. policies if JFK were elected.

As it turned out, JFK spent more time frolicking with Hollywood starlets, young female WH secretaries, and whores than with Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli or Giovanni Battista Enrico Antonio Maria Montini.

Bravo, Il Papa!

Say, now that Preezy Obola is leaning on your influence, how's about throwing down on abortion and corrupt government officials and gay marriage and.....oh.....Obola is not interested in your thoughts on those subjects?

Ah, well. Easy come, easy go.

I mean nothing disrespectful to Catholic FReepers, but do you understand that this pope is a Marxist?

He comes from the South American clergy that defied Rome in the 60s and 70s and developed the whole “liberation theology” movement that is nothing more than socialism garbed in vestments.

Expect more of the same.

I’m not Catholic and could really give a rat’s rear end what he thinks. Don’t know why anyone else does.

I’m not Catholic, but I care what the pope says and does just because so many sheep will follow his lead, and his Marxist influence has the potential to do great harm.

There has always been Christian Socialists in the church. The Catholics have this pope and the Evangelicals have Jim Wallis.
