Japan’s re-elected prime minister, Shinzo Abe, has said he is determined to rewrite the country’s pacifist constitution—drawing an immediate sour response from China.

A day after securing another four years in office with Sunday’s landslide election victory, Abe signaled he would pursue his long-cherished goal of changing the US-authored constitution.

Abe, a conservative, has made no secret of his desire to remove what he regards as unfair constraints on Japan’s military, seven decades after its surrender at the end of a war that saw it occupy neighbors, including China, and attack countries further afield in the Pacific. …

A good rule to follow when contesting territory is to not look weak.

Another one is to not break your promises, like Obama’s been doing to a great deal of nations in that area.

Time and circumstance.

Best they operate in the best interest of their country’s needs and the region.

China does not own the ocean between them.

At one time, the pacifism contained in Japan's constitution seemed reasonable enough.

In 2014, however--well, almost 2015--it is clearly obsolete. Japan is now an ally of the US (and the rest of the West)--not an enemy, as had once been the case.

Think about that carefully. Do you really think Obama has any overseas allies?

Abe is no conservative . Bastard raised the consumption tax from 5 to 8 percent ( everything is taxed inc. food , clothing , medicine , shelter , hospital bills , etc...) and is planning to raise it to 10 percent next year !

Everyone knew that as soon as China became a military power commensurate with its economic growth that Japan would rearm itself.

We have had seven world wars generally one every 50 years when something happened that negated the last peace.

China versus Japan could upset the apple cart, and negate the last peace.

The story behind the story are any assurances, and even agreements, that Japan has given to Korea, Vietnam, and other nations in the region, including the Philippines, all of whom are currently being menaced by China.

He would be too “conservative” for the Guardian, obviously.

Yet it seems the people who cheer on our extremely-lopsided trade “relationship” with Red China did not think of this happening. When commies arm, they are looking for war and territorial expansion.

I certainly do not think that President Obama may be trusted to stand by America's allies, in time of crisis.

Nonetheless, I do believe that Japan is America's ally--not necessarily President Obama's ally. (Fortunately, in just about two more years, Barack Obama will cease to be President of the United States.)

That sure is a lot of faith. I don’t think that many of our “allies” really separate the USA from its president, even if we here do.

Seems that people forget that Abe is a member of the SAS (Shinto Association of Spiritual Leadership), who want to re-politicize Shinto as the state religion. Stuff like that would effectively reverse Hirohito’s Declaration of Humanity and re-institutionalize the notion of the emperor as a direct descendant of the sun goddess Amaterasu. Since Akihito isn’t speaking out against Abe’s actions, it ought to make everyone wonder what is really going on.

In addition, Abe does not believe that Japanese war criminals are guilty of war crimes, nor does he regard them as war criminals under Japanese law.
