A lot of people used to hate George. But I liked him. He did what all owners of teams want, to win. He paid for the best players. He did not go on the cheep like the Atlanta Braves, my former favorite team does. They have sold every decent player they had while at the same time out bid themselves for the likes of BJ Upton giving that deadbeat $75 million for 5 years and he hits nothing and sets strikeout records the past two seasons. George paid to have the best players. I loved his fights with Billy Martin. Lots of laughs.

George owned a steamship company comprised of two Great Lakes boats. They hauled the stuff few others wanted, grain, salt, stone, etc, with few loaded back hauls.
These boats were the lowest denominator on the lakes; rusty, lousy food, slow pay for fuel...
