only when they get intellectually lazy. I think what you are referencing is the mob. It is rather easy for people to get whipped up in mob thinking, especially when they have no principles, morals or guiding higher power.
When one has a well thought out, factual, historically correct set of principles, then one is much less likely to be whipped up into a mob.
That is what makes a Conservative different than a Liberal.
