CINCINNATI — Police were studying mall surveillance video Tuesday in their investigation of the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old Ohio boy authorities say tried to rob a shopper in his quest to obtain popular, limited-edition athletic shoes.
Miami Township police said a man with a concealed weapon permit fired his gun after he and another man were accosted Saturday morning by three teens on a sidewalk outside the Dayton Mall. Police said one teen had showed a gun.
Jawaad Jabbar of Middletown died a short time later of a gunshot wound to his torso, authorities said.

The school principal came out and said what a wonderful lad the deceased was. He failed to mention the minor character flaw of robbing another person at gunpoint. One more turd scraped off a shoe.
The shooter has not been ID’d as far as I know, but given the demographics of that store and a pair of Air Jordans tells me the shooter is a person of color. So don’t expect any protests.
A lot of people wanted shoes at that store that day. Some bought them. Some went home disappointed. Only one (or three if you count his thug friends) decided that armed robbery was a legitimate method of fulfilling his wants. Fortunately he picked someone who wasn't going to be a victim that day.

Jabbar, who went by JJ, moved to Middletown from Columbus to live with his father. People who knew him said he was well mannered.
"He was a real good kid. Hurt my heart to hear it happen," said James Murphy, whose son and Jabbar were friends.
