Liberals everywhere were outraged this week after Rush Limbaugh said a black man playing James Bond would be “ridiculous.” The comments were made on Tuesday in regard to leaked Sony emails that revealed that CEO Amy Paschal wanted the black actor Idris Elba to play James Bond. Rush, however, wasn’t having any of it. “James Bond is a total concept put together by Ian Fleming. He was white and Scottish. Period. That is who James Bond is, was,” the conservative radio show host said. “But now [they are] suggesting that the next James Bond should be Idris Elba, a black Briton, rather than a white from Scotland.” “That’s not who James Bond is and I know it’s racist to probably point this out,” he added. I don’t actually have a problem with a black guy playing James Bond,.....I have a problem with ANYBODY playing Bond except Sean Connery.

When “Bond made his entry into the world”, there were no computers, no cell phones, none of the doo dads that the modern day Bond employs. Should we rid the Bond franchise of those as well?

I think Isdra is a great actor. He was fabulous as Stringer Bell. I could even see him as Bond James Bond, but then I don't go out of my way to see a Bond James Bond movie.
I think the franchise owners should do whatever they want, but a black Annie didn't play too well. My bet is they are more interested in box office returns than political correctness.

I strongly agree with you. There are many black actors capable of performing the role.
It is also my opinion Rush is entitled a different point of view and should not be labeled a racist for sharing it.

I was referring to slavery in the US in reference to another post. If you can find any historical reference to TRUE white slaves in the deep south post 1800, I’d love to read about it.
And indentured servitude is NOT slavery. At least in the US. You couldn’t be born an indentured servant.
When my wife and I saw a commercial for “Annie,” staring a black girl, I said that some white actors should make a “Fat Albert” movie and see whether any Blacks complain.

The Romans had this one figured out. There were Romans, and there were Roman citizens all over the world. The Apostle Paul said he was a citizen of Rome, not a Roman. I once attended a church where they had all the recent sworn in immigrants stand in front of the congregation, and the minister proudly called them “new Americans.” Americans they certainly were not; they were American citizens.
If Bond was in his 90’s, I’d expect the man to remain true to his character. . .maybe a Blue Pill might be necessary, but hey, same character.

not in the 60’s there were not black Scots working under cover as a secret agent.
You seem to miss the part of Scotland being a white country back in the 60’s and only a few black Brits actually worked for the Govt.
