Doctors [in the U.K.] told to report patients who put on weight
The Telegraph [UK] ^ | 25 Dec 2014 | Laura Donnelly

GPs will be asked to identify patients who are putting on weight under a new national programme to help fight obesity.

Simon Stevens, the head of the NHS, said it was time for Britain to "get back in shape" in order to protect millions of people from a host of obesity-related diseases.

Under the scheme, family doctors will be asked to identify anyone who has gained weight and is at risk of diabetes – particularly those aged below 40.

They will then be offered tests for pre-diabetes, followed by healthy lifestyle advice and close monitoring to ensure they are eating better and exercising more.

When the government is paying the healthcare bill, the individual behavior of each patient has an impact on every taxpayer. If they want free choice on how to live their lives, they shouldn’t support socialized medicine.

When you’re not paying the bills, the people who are get a say-so.

Yes. That’s precisely the Fire problem with commiecare. “They” get to dictate YOUR care, or lack of care as they wish.

Of course not. Cattle are much more valuable.

As they say in Louisiana, "Bingeaux."

Agreed. So the cattle will generally get better medical care than government “care” for its humanoid subjects.

In my opinion, the article is silly. I’ve read that it’s hard to get an appointment to see a doctor in the United Kingdom. Where are they going to get all the doctors to see everyone and monitor them carefully? And if they find the doctors, where will they get the money?

Same applies to Americans.

Perfectly stated.
As I tell my college students,
I am not a social investment calculation, I am a person. An individual.
Those are my health care dollars & earnings, I alone will allocate them as I see fit.
That if how a Free Society works.

I know several overweight people. Grossly obese would be a good description. Although fully functional in society, they have severe psychological problems. A simple diet or even threats will not reduce their weight. It is a symptom of other issues that I’m guessing are mostly untreatable. Each is an individual and the Left’s rank and file military approach is a waste of money, effort and even thought. It isn’t society’s problem to resolve. It’s clearly a MYOB issue. Yep. A while back, Kirsten Powers was complaining about the cost of her new Obamacare plan. And then proceeded to say that she shouldn’t have to pay the expenses that overweight people incur....they should be required to lose their excess weight. Those who support Socialized Medicine are fine with the Government forcing lifestyle changes on those the Government decides are using ‘entirely too much if our health care resources’. I wonder how Powers will feel when she gets older and she is denied care simply due to her age. Oh wait, she’s a Big Lib; she probably won’t be denied care if the Marxists are still in charge.
