Police: Home invasion suspect [on probation] shot by California [Pennsylvania] homeowner
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette ^ | December 27, 2014 | Bill Schackner

An intruder died early today after being shot in a California borough home as he charged toward the homeowner who confronted him in the kitchen, Washington County Coroner Tim Warco said.

The male, identified by Mr. Warco as Emanuel Ladson, 37, of Pittsburgh, was pronounced dead at the Monongahela Valley Hospital emergency room at 4:48 a.m.

The incident, described by Mr. Warco in a news release as a home invasion, is being investigated by the coroner, Pennsylvania State Police and police in the borough, officials said.

Ladson entered the home along California Road through a window about 3:35 a.m. and was confronted by the homeowner in the kitchen, the coroner said. Once confronted, Ladson “began running toward the homeowner at which time the homeowner fired a single shot from a handgun, striking the victim in the chest,” the news release said.

Ladson left the home through the front door but collapsed in the yard approximately 50 feet away.

The coroner listed the cause of death as a gunshot wound to the chest, with the manner of the man’s death being investigated.

Online court records show that Ladson has a criminal history out of Philadelphia County. In January 2002 he pleaded guilty to crimes including robbery, for which he was sentenced to 5 to 10 years in jail. In November, 2012, Ladson pleaded guilty to a forgery charge and was sentenced to 6-12 months in jail with 5 years probation.

The idiots who run the judicial system decided that this convicted criminal didn't deserve to be in jail, so they let him out on probation. He then decided to break into someone's house, and was shot and killed by the homeowner.

The intruder acted stupidly.

The crime, don’t pull it if you can’t take the bullet.

“The coroner listed the cause of death as a gunshot wound to the chest...”

or, could be written on his death certificate; ‘cause of death, heart stopped’.

The article left out one key piece of information, so I am left to fill in the blank all by myself.

Congratulations to the homeowner for being such a fine shot. Great way to begin a new year. And a big thank you for ridding the planet of another worthless piece of garbage.

When I read a story like this where the intruder was “killed by the homeowner” I usually think that it was actually drugs that killed the intruder.

Anyway, props to the homeowner for protecting his home and family.

Sounds like the perp made it outside before he bled out, which was darned considerate if you ask me. A stain here and there isn't too bad but getting a whole pool of blood out of the carpet is sort of expensive.

Uh...or so I've been told.

The article left out THE most important information:

The make/model/caliber of the handgun and which type of bullet was used.

I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say .45 ACP 230 JHP (single shot to the chest and all)

I DO HOPE HE DID NOT MAKE TOO MUCH OF A MESS INSIDE THE HOUSE.

G. Gordon Liddy penned an article years ago about choosing a weapon for home defense, handgun v. shotgun, pointing out that the latter is more likely to take out Great Aunt Mabel's irreplaceable vase in the hallway.

I guess "Plugs" Biden and I read different material.

Southwest Pennsylvania is the only place where you can drive to Indiana, Oklahoma and California in a single afternoon.

Two of the three are University towns.

That's what caught my eye as well.

Perfect shot placement.

BOOM!! "Okay, now shoo...out the door...that's it, lie down there on the nice grass...the coroner will be here before you catch a chill."
