Let me expand a bit. Read the posts from drellberg on this thread. Here he is trying to make excuses for his Ronmey support. He cannot refute Romney’s record of evil. He knows with 20/20 hindsight what happened after the election. the GOP ran left at a record pace. And here he is, as was another longtime freeper on another thread today) paving the way for himself and others to do it all again.
Dead babies? No problem. More liberalism under GOP banner? Fine.
They want to win. Not giving two Freeps what they win. Not caring the GOP promised and delivered Amnesty. Not caring they funded Obamacare several times plenty of us suffer under.
They want their blankie.

Governors do have power, but if they're up against a president or the courts and are on the losing side they have to decide whether to up the ante or fold.
They have to choose whether they can actually win a fight or not, and if they can't they eventually will have to back down.
I don't like Jeb that much -- he's not very inspiring -- but I don't fault him for not wrenching disagreements up into major crises if the consensus is that the other side has come out on top.
It used to be that people recognized the governors had executive experience and were likely to be good contenders for the presidency. Nowadays, governors are so tied up by real world constraints that they can be outbid by candidates without any executive experience who promise that they'll never compromise or back down, but really, if Ted Cruz were a governor, people would be making the same kind of attacks on him that they make on other candidates, because he'd have had to make the same kind of compromises and concessions that governors with real world responsibilities have to make.
Amazing the lengths you will go to to justify liberalism. Your whole post ignores the 10th Amendment.
In the Elian Gonzalez case, the federal government and federal courts were involved in a matter involving federal immigration law. Did state authorities really have a 10th Amendment right to intervene in a case that looks to involve powers and responsibilities delegated to the federal government.
I'm not saying Bush made the right decision in these cases. I'm just saying that it's easy to attack him for not escalating the crises when you don't actually have to make decisions like that. It's easy to say "no compromises" if you're never in the position of having to make the decisions and live with the consequences.
If we wanted easy, then we’d all still be members of the Church of England drinking tea and talking about poppycock and all that rot, thanking her Majesty’s ancestor for the wisdom to set those idiot colonists straight. That would be easy. We still could and cite reparations as a right.
Being a leader means having the guts to lead. Sometimes that isn’t easy. Sometimes it’s a fight. If we go by your idea, lets just go home now and be done with it because there is no point in fighting anything. Lets just accept whatever we are told.

So far as I can tell, Bush stayed out of the Elian Gonzalez case -- maybe because it was a federal matter.
He did what he could for Terry Schiavo -- that was more than other governors might.
Should he have gone further? Maybe he should have, but my point was that it's easy to say things like that if you aren't actually the person responsible.
What is it with you guys and the violent thing? Why can’t a Gov simply invoke the 10th and take it to the USSC first? Is that such a radical notion? I mean that’s the constitutional thing to do. Why does everything have to end with capitulation before any fight even starts?

What’s more remarkable is FOX NEWS is initially trying to have the nomination to Jeb.
Jeb’s not my first choice but I will support him if he is the nominee. He is pro-life and pro-traditional marriage and pro-religion.
As long as he doesn’t waffle on those three issues, I could vote for him in 2016 over Hillary hips.
I wasn't trying so much to defend Bush -- he looked weak, and looking weak is what will cost him the election -- as to point out that it's easy for voters and politicians who don't have the responsibility for such decisions to run down his actions.
Generally speaking, politicians -- even those who make a lot of noise about no compromise and no backing off on other issues -- avoid tough cases like this when they are the ones who have answer for their decisions. It's not a sure thing that even whatever politician you like the best would act differently from Bush if they had the authority.
Then he uses his authority, places either Guard or private security indemnified by his authority around the building and MAKES the feds act on camera before the world and lets then deal with the fallout.
Let the feds try throwing a sitting Gov in a 10th Amendment dispute into prison.
MAKE THEM TRY. Thats being a leader. And he absolutely had the power to do it as Gov.

Telling conservatives they were 0 voters and supporters for not siding with the GOP-e candidate(s) and that it's the "party above all else".
