Late last year, Obama asked the Federal Communications Commission to create a new set of rules to make sure everyone has access to the Internet and that phone and cable companies would not be allowed "to act as a gatekeeper, restricting what you can do or see online."

Which means he wants to tack on a crap load of taxes on internet use. That’s all democrats know how to do. They never stopped being the party of tax and spend.

This is how Obama will try to fudge the unemployment numbers and bragging about how many jobs this new agency will create.

Does this mean that every morning when we hook up to the internet, we will be greeted by the face and a message of our dear leader?

Every scandal discovered about the government got aired first on the internet.

I’ve said for years that politicians on both sides will soon seek to crush that access and transparency.

Here it comes.

If it is deemed "hate speech" they do. They also get to define what hate speech is!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From your link:

"I hate the idea that you have to pay a penalty, but at the same time, it helps other people," said Moon, who's in his early 20s. "It really helps society, but society has to be forced to help society."

Sometimes, I feel like just sitting back and watching it all burn.

As it stands today, Internet service providers are classified as information services, which means the FCC cannot regulate them as it would landline phones, which are considered telecommunication utilities and under the FCC’s purview. Reclassifying ISPs as utilities (like common carrier telephone services) would potentially give the FCC far greater control over ISPs.

> Keep you filthy rotten fingers off our Internet.

Everyone on earth knows why he wants it regulated. It’s painfully obvious. He wants complete control to monitor, control and censor the fow of information. He did it with the MSM and now he wants to access that punish those who don’t agree with his agenda or ideologies. If he gets what he wants hackers will want to get their hands on the same keys and they will deliver the payback for a change...

I think that’s been the inital idea when banks etc. and such began putting everything on the net.....bottom line you can control the flow of trade and revenue if you can control the net....not to mention people.

When you consider this article from March 2014...they are quickly setting things up....

Since 1998, under a contract with the Commerce Department’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), DNS has been handled by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), a non-profit corporation created for the purpose.

But when its current contract expires in ‘’’September 2015’’’, it won’t be renewed. In the meantime, an alternative will be worked out.

“The timing is right to start the transition process,” says assistant secretary of commerce for communications and information Lawrence E Strickling. “We look forward to ICANN convening ‘stakeholders across the global internet community’ to craft an appropriate transition plan.”.... (who might they be?)

ICANN will work with organizations including:

The Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF),
The Internet Architecture Board (IAB),
The Internet Society (ISOC),
The Regional Internet Registries (RIRs),
.... top level domain name operators, VeriSign and others to develop new proposals.

The intention is to maintain the security, stability, and resiliency of the internet – along with its openness. The Commerce Department says it won’t accept a proposal that simply allows another government or group of governments to take over the role of the NTIA.

The responsibilities to be farmed out will include the administration of changes to the DNS’s authoritative root zone file – the database containing the lists of names and addresses of all top-level domains – as well as managing the unique identifiers registries for domain names, IP addresses, and protocol parameters.
