Rep. Louie Gohmert Announces Run for Speaker of the House
US House ^ | Jan 4th 2015 | Louie Gohmert

Posted on 01/04/2015 8:33:31 AM PST by FR_addict

WASHINGTON, DC— Rep. Louie Gohmert (TX-01) released the following statement today regarding his decision to buck the status quo and challenge John Boehner in the race for House Speaker:

“After the November elections gave Republicans control of the Senate, voters made clear they wanted change. There have been numerous examples of problematic Republican leadership, but we were hopeful our leaders got the voters’ message. However, after our Speaker forced through the CRomnibus by passing it with Democratic votes and without time to read it, it seemed clear that we needed new leadership. There had been much discussion. But, until yesterday, no one had stepped up.

I applaud my friend Rep. Ted Yoho for putting his name forward as an alternative to the status quo. Ted is a good man for whom I could vote, but I have heard from many supporters and also friends in Congress who have urged me to put forward my name for Speaker as well to increase our chances of change. That is why I am also offering my name as a candidate for Speaker.

There is false information being floated that any Republican candidates in addition to the current Speaker will split the vote and give the Speaker's gavel to Congresswoman Pelosi. This is nothing but a scare tactic to keep the current regime in power.

As long as Republicans vote for an adult American citizen for Speaker, no Democrat can win. Only if 59 Republicans voted “Present” would there be a chance for a Democrat to win.

To win the Speaker’s race, an adult American citizen has to get a clear majority of all Members of Congress on the House floor voting for an eligible person. Voting “Present” simply reduces the number of votes required to win a majority. If no one wins a majority on the first ballot, then we go to a second vote, then a third, until someone gets a majority.

At this point, the Speaker’s election is not about a particular candidate. It is about whether we keep the status quo or make the change the country demands. I am putting forward my name for consideration as Speaker and hope that with a new Speaker, be that me or someone else, we can fight for the ideals and principles that the voters wanted when they elected us in November.”

Congressman Gohmert is the Vice Chair of the Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism and Homeland Security. Prior to being elected to serve in Congress, Louie was elected to three terms as District Judge in Smith County, Texas. He was appointed by Texas Governor Rick Perry to complete a term as Chief Justice of the 12th Court of Appeals.

According to Gohmert, if 29 Republicans vote for someone else besides Boehner, they can get to the second round. It is on the youtube at 1:00:

So it only takes 29 Republicans to get to the second round and that's where they can pick up enough to dump Boehner. The momentum will be against Boehner at that point in the elections.

“and that would be different... how?”

It wouldn’t be. But the good news would be, it couldn’t be hidden by the MSM. Thats to our advantage.

I don't know if Dems will vote for Boehner on the first round, but the Republicans need to make a stand against Boehner. We are in no danger of losing the Speakership to Pelosi and if Dems vote for Boehner, it's going to upset their constituents and it will make it more obvious how the Dems and RINOs are in cahoots.

We don't have anything to lose and a lot to gain. Yes, individual conservative Reps could suffer under Boehner, but they already do. The vitriol against conservatives by establishment RINOs was palpable during the election. I wish they would expend that energy against Obama’s agenda.

This would be good.

I hope that Gohmert and the other Constitutional Republic Conservative Tea Party type members have the gumption to oust the GOPe speaker.

It’s quite a risk because when the vote happened a while ago, Boehner made it quite clear that anyone that voted against him would lose any committee position they have.

Is Harry Reid his daddy? What a selfish backstabbing thing to do.

They mistakenly call our Constitutional Republic a Democracy but refuse to even let that process play our fairly.

It’s just like as if there is only one party, the repubs and dems use the same dirty tricks, just to keep their power with all the perk$.

Who made the 2 branches of Congress into Monarchies! Unconstitutional to the max.

Boehner needs to go!

I really think Gohmert is very serious. He is already despised by the elites. His announcement was well thought out and countered the RINOs argument.

We are in no danger of losing the Speakership to Pelosi and if Dems vote for Boehner

And then there is the fact that Boehner is Pelosi Lite.

The GOPe is nothing less than a bunch of traitors to our Constitutional Republic!

Not for Speaker - the Speaker is not the leader of the caucus but the leader of the whole House, therefore, is elected by the House members at large.

We need Louie’s announcement to go viral!

I’m looking at other sites I frequent to see if they had it. We had it here before Drudge.

The #29 assumes that no Democrats will vote for Boehner as speaker.

So if Boehner is denied the initial majority in the first vote, who is he more likely to make a deal with, (1) The group of conservatives in the House trying to oust him and his leadership or (2) Pelosi and the Dems. Ask yourself this, as Boehner ever used/required Dem support to get past conservatives in the past? Well there’s your answer.

Back door deal to increase Dem power on committees and blacklist conservatives leading the fight to oust him. That is Boehner’s plan it would appear.

Louis Gohmert was my first choice for Speaker! I had no idea he was considering stepping forward. I’m more than skeptical that we’ll manage to rid ourselves of Boehner, but it’s worth fighting for. I’m calling my stupid Congressman tomorrow.

Absolutely.

I will be SHOCKED beyond measure if enough in the GOP are willing to be punished, publicly scorned and overcome the corruption and intimidation to actually oust Boehner from his chair.

I will be shocked, and gleefully surprised.

But I am not holding my breath. DC is beyond redemption and will not allow itself to be corralled to the will of the people or the Constitution via civil means.

Boehner is already a backstabber! He's already backlisting conservatives.

If the Dems help to elect Boehner, then it will be obvious who Boehner really is. If Republicans go along with this strategy, then we are doomed anyway.

That may be true, but Yoho would be leaps and bounds ahead of current leadership. Let’s bring him along to “our side” as a wheat cap bending in the wind. That said: Louis Gohmert for Speaker!!
