Civil Rights Groups to Obama: More Fed Edu Funding, No Standardized Tests for Minorities
Breitbart ^ | 4 Jan 2015 | Dr. Susan Berry

Posted on 01/05/2015 12:25:13 PM PST by Zhang Fei

The civil rights groups say they believe accountability “at the local, state, and federal levels are central to advancing and broadening equal educational opportunity for each and every child in America.”

“From early education to the post-secondary years, we believe that the federal government continues to play a critical role in helping states, districts, and tribes to achieve educational excellence through equity,” the groups write.

They assert, however, their concerns “about overly punitive accountability systems:”

In particular, the No Child Left Behind law has not accomplished its intended goals of substantially expanding educational equity or significantly improving educational outcomes. Racial achievement and opportunity gaps remain large, and many struggling school systems have made little progress under rules that emphasize testing without investing. [3] We must shift towards accountability strategies that promote equity and strengthen, rather than weaken, schools in our communities, so that they can better serve students and accelerate student success.

Government schools are nothing more than another Democrat slush fund.

Good thing I got my education back when Democrats were dirt cheap.

There’s precious little point in dumping more zillions of
Dineros at “education” if the teachers in the classroom arent even allowed to find out their students’ learning needs. Just forget about it then

Absolutely nothing in the article supports the headline.

Dang, now I have to go and actually read it.

Thanks. : )

That’s pretty much the gist of it, is it not?

For some reason, they’re saying that minorities are incapable of achieving according to the non-minority’s standards...

This smacks of what is called “social promotion”. This is where minorities are moved up grade levels based on age rather than any accomplishments as measured by any sort of standardized tests. This brain dead segment of our population assert that any standardized test you can come up with is inherently racist because blacks don't test as well as the balance of the population.

This is how you end up with high school graduates that can't read or write.

Educated people are much harder to control than those who are not, which is why democratic social engineers hate home schooling, school vouchers, private schools, or any other effective measure to educate our youth.

True, but since the quotes from the letter are drivel I figure the headline is about as accurate as any other headline would be.

I thought an equal educational opportunity is what we got when we integrated schools in 1674. (My school wasn’t integrated until 1968 so they’re four years behind their peeps.)

OK. I went and read it.

My opinion of all the gobblety-gook I read was that the ‘minorities’ want the same amount of money that well performing schools get, regardless to performance.

They then go on to say they want MORE money than well performing schools get.

Included are requests for more ‘diverse’ staff, access to the assets of the well performing schools, and lots of ‘cultural sensitivity’ (like more of those ‘african studies/feminist studies’ classes which the teachers don’t actually teach and the students don’t actually attend).

I am in the same camp as you. If I wanted pretty much anything, I found some way to pay for it. Even a tenth that is given to a minority to me would have been a windfall.

I have come to the conclusion that they will never be happy until all whites vacate their homes and bank accounts and hand the keys and everything over to them.

It was done in Zimbabwe. See how well that worked out.

Tests do nothing more than prove the intelligence diparity between children of differing backgrounds. And that’s not fair. Only smart students should have to take the tests.

What do I win? Was there a right answer? Wait,... what was the question?
