“But is it wise to publish the material they did? I wouldn’t do it, that’s for sure. “

Unfortunately, thinking that the avoidance of anything that could be potentially offensive to Islam will ensure peace is delusional. It doesn’t matter what we do. That’s just the sad reality.

Both things are true. That the Muslims as a group keep breeding violent criminals is true, but that anti-Christian and anti-Muslim Left do not deserve a free speech protection for their cartoons is also true.

Before commenting on this article, people should use their favorite search engine to find out what "Charlie Hebdo" was in the habit of publishing.

1) Murder is wrong. The mad mohammedans who murdered, in cold blood, the cartoonists at "Charlie Hebdo" need to hang by the neck until they are dead.

2) Prior to this islamic terrorist atrocity, I had never heard of "Charlie Hebdo". By murdering these cartoonists in cold blood, the vile demon-inspired subhuman cockroaches gave the cartoonists a much wider audience than they ever had before. They turned the cartoonists into secular "martyrs". The islamic filth are stupid as well as evil.

3) The output of "Charlie Hebdo" was and is, IMO, repulsive and reprehensible; the product of diseased minds. It deserved either to be ignored as unworthy of comment, or to be opposed in the realm of ideas. Proverbs 26:4-5. It should NOT, IMO, be unreservedly praised. Je ne suis pas 'Charlie'.

By this logic, I guess a woman walking alone at night is “asking for it,” too.

Notice that Donohue said that the massacre was not without provocation, but it WAS without justification.

"Killing in response to insult, no matter how gross, must be unequivocally condemned. That is why what happened in Paris cannot be tolerated," said Donohue...

Charlie Heb did cartoons o the Pope half naked and wearing a condom, nuns masturbating with crucifixes, and Our Lord doing things I can't describe. I would be RIGHT to be angry, but not JUSTIFIED in going out and murdering people.

That's all Donohue said.

But notice how the Wawa Compost frames it. It says that many have rallied in support of the magazine and its right to free speech...

"But not everyone is so supportive. Bill Donohue...

Bill Donohue has been consistently in favor of free speech and free press, and consistently against obscene provocations (without calling for prior censorship or state suppression of offensive speech.)

But the WaWa Compost has finally put two conservatives into the ring, so to speak, and is now urging, "Let's you an' him fight!"

They just aim to set conservatives to punching each other our.

Amazing how easily they succeed.

“But reason isn’t ruling the day, hate is.”

Precisely. I can't believe that less than 100 years since the rise of the Nazis people are still thinking that appeasement works when dealing with hate.

Making fine points isn’t the forte of our wondrous modern entertainment media, some of whom aren’t that far above Hebdo.

To give the RC Church its due, it did correct the molestation problem, or at least addressed it.

Islam has had 1400 years to correct its excesses, and it still has shown no inclination to do so.

“Bill Donohue doesn’t speak for Catholics. Bill Donohue speaks for Bill Donohue.”

He does not speak for this Catholic.

I used to have respect for Mr. Donohue, but he has become a parody of himself.

Amazing how easily they succeed.

They succeed because people, even some conservatives on FR, love to have their prejudices stroked. Leftist agitators like the washington compost are really good at stroking peoples' prejudices.

Thankfully the RC Church has done a LOT of major bigtime clean-up in that area.

Donohue is an idiot and his reasoning is flawed. Charlie Hebdo is not guilty of “intolerance”. Charlie Hebdo is not an arm of the French government passing laws that are “intolerant” of Muslims. Charlie Hebdo is a privately- owned satirical review exercising freedom of speech for its readers. As much as you may not like how or what they are criticizing, to justify blaming them for their own deaths is siding with the jihadists who are using France’s overly accommodating policies towards Muslims to silence any dissent, and to thus cement the death of France and the rise of a new Islamist state in her place. Consciously or subconsciously, attacks like this one scare people into willingly forfeiting their free speech rights. The numbers are where they need to be. France has a population of Muslims which has reached over 10 percent of the total population of 66 million and France itself has begun to allow local communities of Muslims to “govern themselves”. Balkanization. France is heading for the cultural ash heap and we in America had better take note because Islamic immigration to America has spiked this past year and there are too many in government here who refuse to connect terrorism with the Muslim population and who are acting and speaking publicly and privately in an accomodationist manner toward the introduction of Sharia law in American jurisprudence. Sharia law condones the murder of all “infidels”. Their goal is to install the Caliphate worldwide. And the U.S. is in their way.

If these people think the cartoonists deserve it, then what do they think of the millions on the Internet that post far more insulting and degrading things about islam??

Selective outrage seems to be another Islamic trait...also the trait of idiots I must add.

On the street I hear this is a problem among all denominations’ clergy. 100 years ago it was virtually unthinkable. A libertine (not libertarian, libertine) society has managed to worm its bad morals into the churches.

The Roman church gets such opprobrium because it is a single large target. Hardly anybody is complaining about little indie churches. But they have roughly equal rates of such trouble. The post of preacher or priest or minister allows certain access to kids, and perverts will exploit that.

I disagree with the Roman folks on some matters of theology. But in this regard they have scarcely distinguished themselves as being particularly bad among Christendom.

IMHO, “Charlie Hebdo” was France’s version of “Mad Magazine”, no more, no less.

I am a fan of neither magazine, but what took place in France should very well be a warning to not take our precious liberties for granted.
