Jews Continue To Flee Democratic Party

The exodus of Jewish Americans from the Democratic Party continued in 2014, with only 61 percent of Jews identifying with the party last year, according to a new poll released Tuesday by Gallup.

Sixty-one percent may seem high, compared to 31 percent of the general public who identify as Democrats, but that’s a 3 percent dip from 2013, and a huge drop from 2008, when 71 percent of Jews said they were Democrats.

The Democrats’ loss is the GOP’s gain. In 2014, 29 percent of Jews said they were Republicans, up 1 percent from 2013 and a 7 percent rise from 2008.

The changing attitudes of Jews don’t simply reflect shifts in the American electorate since 2008, as their shift towards Republicans and away from Democrats substantially outpaces any movements by America at large.

Which brings us to the biggest Communist country of them all: the People's Republic of China.

There are a lot of Chinese-Americans in the United States. Many of them constitute immigrants who suffered tremendously under communism, through the Great Leap Forward and then the Cultural Revolution.

Yet Chinese-Americans are also a highly, highly Democratic constituency. One exit poll put 73% of Chinese-Americans as voting Democratic. Why does the Schwarzenegger experience not resonate with Chinese immigrants?

One reason might be that most Chinese immigrants are not communist refugees. Many anti-communist immigrants were persecuted as a specific class or individually by communist governments. They then fled to the United States. On the other hand, a lot of Chinese immigrants came to the United States as students, workers, or via family connections. Many of them represent people who benefited from the system in China. This is especially true for those who came as students or workers.

There is also the fact that China's Communist Party is by far the most successful of all the communist parties out there. This dilutes the potential opposition against it. For instance, the Chinese community would probably not support an American embargo on China aimed at toppling the communist government there. This is quite different from the Cuban emigrant community.

I’ll begin this by stating the obvious: modern-day Democrats are far more likely to be anti-Semitic than modern-day Republicans (almost 2:1). In fact, current Democrats are far more likely to be anti-Semitic than Republicans ever were. Study referenced here:

That said, you asked about history. There are not a lot of studies like the one posted above on history, so I’ll just give some examples:

Sen. Prescott Bush (grandaddy) was on record for his anti-Jewish statements, on the board of a Nazi-controlled bank, and was almost prosecuted for “trading with the enemy.” (The details of all but his opinions are controversial and from lefty sources, so take any given specific with a grain of salt.)

James Baker is famous for wanting to abandon Israel (”F—k the Jews.”) because American Jewish voters “didn’t vote Republican.”

Henry Ford was a classic Republican anti-Semite and the Republicans of the day including some noted anti-Semites.

Etc.

What really brought Republicans “around” to liking Jewish people and Israel was William F. Buckley, and I think Buckley conservatism is the type of conservatism that Jews will eventually embrace.

Pat Buchannon of today represents the last gasp of Republican anti-Semites.
