Members of the Sultan’s administration have long expressed a desire to get the price of gas to the levels Europeans pay for it. Boehner and McConnell will strive to get that done. The Republicans will go along.

Record-low gas prices across the U.S. have given rise to fresh talk in Washington of raising the federal gas tax for the first time in over 20 years, with leading Republicans now saying a hike must not be ruled out.

When both Democrats and Republicans agree that the solution to a problem is to raise taxes, then what have we?

We know the GOPe and Democrats both hate what is known as the "Tea Party." But there is no such thing as the "Tea Party." There are many voters with common sense who can see the degradation and corruption in our government, who know that men and women are different, not the same as in same sex marriage, who know that abortion is killing of innocents, who know that the science of man made global warming is FAR from settled. And who believe in fiscal responsibility...

What to do?

CONgress has consistently demonstrated that they can not be trusted with the nation’s finances.

If they want $$ for roads and bridges, let them reprogram money from other areas just like they have raided the transportation fund in the first place.

I have no patience for this.

The feds and the states apply a fixed price per gallon tax, the price of gas has dropped which allows more people to purchase more for the dollar which means more gallons purchased and more taxes generated. There is no reason for raising gas taxes. Now state severance taxes on oil and gas are taking a big kick in the pants, they are based on percentage per barrel and unit. They are seeing an almost 50% drop in revenue.

Federalism is ‘supposed’ to mean, in this case, that the STATES can raise THEIR fuel taxes and fund their improvements. The rub is that the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT can DEMAND the states to do and fund specific actions. This is why we need a rebirth of the FEDERAL SYSTEM.

Of course if I held my breath for this, I’d find myself voting Democrat from 6 feet under!

Nope. You guys can find a place to CUT the budget elsewhere and put that money into infrastructure.

By the way, I thought that $1 TRILLION “stimulus” was going to infrastructure.

Why does government sponsor the building of infrastructure that requires continual, predictable bank-busting maintenance?

Record-low gas prices across the U.S.

Only "record low" for the period of the 0bama regime. Gas was $1.50 when the kenyan commie came to power.

And where is the "momentum" for higher taxes coming from? I seriously doubt it is coming from those that pay the taxes. Most likely from the leeches that form the "dem core constituents" who pay NO taxes. Gas prices won't be low forever and when they go back up, the taxes won't go away.

I’m not so sure raising the gas tax is such a bad idea, as the alternative seems to be GPS Tracking for the purpose of road pricing (i.e., variable-rate tolling).

We DEFINITELY will be getting one or the other...in Texas now, it’s pretty much the second. We don’t “officially” have tracking, but half of our cars have transponders (for toll roads) and the state has readers for those transponders on EVERY HIGHWAY now (including all of the freeways), so you can’t get too far without landing in a searchable database.

See this is why the Republicans are a joke. They no longer believe in low taxes too.
