I am not Charlie
Regarding “Massacre at French paper stuns world” (Jan. 8), the killing of 12 people at the French newspaper, Charlie Hebdo, is appalling. Hopefully, the perpetrators will soon be caught and prosecuted. The fact that 12 people are dead over cartoons by white, male cartoonists is horrible.
Free speech is an important part of our society and criticism of Charlie Hebdo cartoons is also speech. But no one should be killed over cartoons. However, the statement “Je Suis Charlie” (I Am Charlie) ignores the magazine’s history of xenophobia, racism, sexism and homophobia. I sympathize with the victims’ families, but I will not be Charlie.

Some concepts are too simple for the intelligentsia to comprehend. I disagree completely with everything the San Fran Chronicle says, but I will fight to the death for their right to say it. Now.. If they would only return the favor.

Anyone who’s belief system can be shaken by a crude cartoon has a pretty shaky belief system. I bet this guy was upset about Piss Christ. Not.
You simply don’t understand that all free people must be ready to equally defend each others rights, ESPECIALLY when you don’t agree with them. It’s EASY to defend the rights of people you agree with, HARD to defend the rights of your rival. Grow a brain.

Christians didn't murder any Charile Hebdo people.
Mohammedans murdered 10 Charlie Hebdo people, and 2 policemen.
Charlie was and is cultural trash, to be engaged and opposed with words and with prayer. Mohammedan murderers are to be destroyed.

CH was on many occasions quite vile. What was done to them was far more vile.

It doesn’t matter if this guy agrees with the Hebdo magazine or not. Being killed over a cartoon isn’t horrible. It is unacceptable, and this guy is basically implying that they got what was coming SIMPLY because they were anti-homo.
I used to live in the Bay Area, and now live close enough I can still read the Chronicle from time to time to keep up on local news. This joker (”No one should be hurt because of free speech... but these guys had it coming) is a frequent contributor, but his letter is run of the mill for letters to the editor at this paper.
Guys like that are ready to hang a swastika, hammer and sickle, crescent, cross or Darwin fish around their necks at any turn in the block. If you need capos, they are ready and willing. If you just need them to look away, they will. If you order them onto trucks, they will board. They are the pitiful sheep that always run in the center of the herd.
They are so weird that when they do pro-gay stuff, the gay crowd in San Francisco calls it homophobic
At this point the left lessens thinking by doing package deals. Guilty of just one thought crime then you are automatically magically indicted on all of them. I’ve seen this three times in the last month alone
