Prosecutors Recommend Felony Charges Against General Petreus for Email Leak
TheVerge.com ^ | 1/9/15 | Russell Brandom

More than two years after he resigned as director of the CIA, it's more likely than ever that General Petraeus will be the subject of a federal indictment. Today, The New York Times is reporting that the FBI and Justice Department have recommended felony charges against the General for leaking classified information to his mistress, Paula Broadwell. Petraeus hasn't commented on the charges, but has apparently told the Justice Department that he has no interest in a plea deal. It's up to Attorney General Holder whether or not the government presses charges against Petraeus, but if it does, the result would be one of the largest court cases against a senior military officer in recent memory.

The FBI alleges that Petraeus gave Broadwell access to his CIA email account and other classified information as part of the research for her biography of Petraeus. The investigation also involved the bureau breaking into Petraeus's personal Gmail account, where he and Broadwell communicated through unsent messages in the Drafts folder. Still, the investigation and early prosecutorial measures have been unusually delicate because of the politics involved. As one FBI official told the Times as the case was first breaking, "there are a lot of sensitivities in a case like this."

There is very little that could come of a prosecution in this matter. While Petraeus was wrong to have the affair, he paid the price for it and resigned in disgrace over it. Yes,he was stupid to have the affair, but he is way too smart to put anything SECRET or TOP SECRET into an unclassified system. Secondly, Mrs Broadwell, held at least a SECRET clearance in her own status as an Army Reserve Officer, and Petreaus had the authority he needed to share information with her within that classification. As long as she did not put specifically classified material into whatever she was writing for publication, there is no issue.

The purported prosecution is all about diverting attention from Bill Clinton’s involvement with the pedophile/ under-aged prostitute ring in order to protect Hillary. In addition, Petraeus probably has the goods on Beghazi from his CIA sources & after action reports. By prosecuting him, they can marginalize any charges he may level at Hillary. Plain and simple.

He thought the democrats would cover for him. Petraeus is not needed anymore by obama and the democrats.
He did his part in running weapons to our enemies and covering up what happened in Benghazi. He is a fool.

“where he and Broadwell communicated through unsent messages in the Drafts folder. “

I guess just about everybody in government caught on to this trick.

off topic but relevant.

http://www.militaryfactory.com/military_pay_scale.asp

Was looking at current pay scales for military, looks like a O-10/4 star with 28 years makes about 200K a year. But this is what caught my eye, an o8/2star under 2 years is about 120K a year. Can some one tell me how you can be a 2 star generalwith less than 2 years of service?

Wow, I’m so glad I have access to the smartest political commentators in America.

I bet that every TV talking head and every congress critter gets their info from FR but none will ever admit to that fact.

And this is NOT tongue in cheek.

His wife was also awarded a lucrative job in the Obama admin. I don't feel sorry for him. He cozied up to the Obama admin, lied about Benghazi and his rules of engagement were used against our troops. I bet you are right. They more than likely will not prosecute.

However, I do feel badly for the soldier who is facing 20 years for ordering his soldiers to shoot the enemy:

Look how this soldier was railroaded by the army. There was definite prosecutable misconduct in this case.

I had a SECRET clearance. Basically, it let me get the tactical codebook for the day. Wouldn’t get me in the front door of the CIA.

Prosecuting a man who won the war in the Middle East for adultery. Are you kidding me?

As far as obama is concerned, winning the war was his real crime.
