SANFORD --

A Seminole County judge has set $5,000 bond for George Zimmerman, who was arrested Friday night in Lake Mary.

The 31-year-old was booked around 9:45 p.m. for aggravated assault -- domestic violence with a weapon. According to Don West, Zimmerman's attorney, his client threw a wine bottle during the incident.

Zimmerman is prohibited from contacting the victim, returning to her home or entering Volusia County. He must surrender all firearms by Tuesday, but will not have to wear a GPS monitoring device.

He is due back in court at 1:30 p.m. Feb. 17 in front of Judge Donna McIntosh.

This was Zimmerman's third arrest in recent years.

According to all gun laws and the court system GZ had every right to defend him self from a thug!

Good for him but he still acts like an idiot with the choices he makes!

Naw....People just know how to push his buttons. If you know someone has a bad temper....you don't seek them out...and then poke them.

If I got arrested everytime I threw something, I'd still be in jail.

“he should at least leave the gun at home”

It was a wine bottle.

Right. If the guy really tried to harm someone with a wine bottle it can be a serious assault. But if he threw a bottle across the room in anger it’s a childish display but shouldn’t be a criminal issue.

“After the brief hearing, Zimmerman’s attorney, Don West, told the Orlando Sentinel (http://tinyurl.com/me467wh) his client was arrested after allegedly throwing a wine bottle at his girlfriend several days ago.”

He was arrested several days after the alleged incident. Did she call it in at the time of the incident? In the other two incidents both women recanted their story.

The weapon in question was apparently the wine bottle, not a firearm.

He did have his head bounced off the ground. I haven’t heard anyone ask if he has some post concussion or other trauma damage.

He is a jerk and should move if he cannot control himself or choose better associates. If not, he will deservedly end up in prison.

The excuse making and condemnation of other people, including the cops, is as bad as condemnations of NYPD. We should not be a party to it.

GZ is a young man, apparently not overly bright, who had some brushes with the law but apparently really was trying to turn his life around and be a good husband, employee and neighbor.

He stumbled into a firestorm, through no real fault of his own, but arguably not with the best possible judgment.

His life has been pretty comprehensively destroyed. Hard to see how he can conceivably hold a normal job, go freely anywhere in public, etc.

It’s entirely logical that this would mess up anybody’s life and lead to acting out. AFAIK he hasn’t injured or killed anybody, just frightened some people, even if all the various accusations were true.

As the owner of a Latin temper myself, I will say that control is a difficult thing to learn, and is never totally reliable-if throwing things could get me arrested, I also would still be in jail.

Throwing/smashing things is probably the least violent impulse you have when that red veil comes down-and smart people do not, repeat do not provoke someone with a bad temper.

That said, George should invest in a few months of therapy, with a focus on anger management-then relocate to someplace like the Alaska wilderness-he would be able to find a job, a woman who is not inclined to put up with his crap, and not have the stress of notoriety and too many people

“Maybe hoping to get a few bucks...”

I do believe you have it right-he is young, has been through hell, demonized by the press and his wife left-he is vulnerable to being set off and acting a fool. Maybe these women are hoping one of his civil suits will be gold and they want some...

Get away from people, George.

It's hunting season and Fate and the PTBs have placed a huge target on your back.

Find some alone time in a Franciscan Center or similar place for a while and get your head back on straight and your heart in the right place.
