Sarah Palin Accepts Invitation to Speak at Cambridge

Governor Sarah Palin has accepted an invitation to speak at Cambridge Union.  The invite is for Cambridge’s Lent termcard.  The event will be held on March the 2nd, during the Lent observance leading up to Easter Sunday.  2015 marks the 200th anniversary of the Cambridge Union Society.

Reflecting on the varied fields of the revealed speakers, Amy Gregg, President of the Union for Lent 2015, commented: “I’m extremely pleased that we have begun our Bicentenary year with such a diverse range of prominent speakers. As ever, the Union strives to offer members the opportunity to engage with some of the world’s most significant and influential public figures.” (tcs.cam.ac.uk)

In week seven, American politician Sarah Palin will be speaking at the Union. Palin is a trailblazer for women in American politics, as the first woman to have been elected governor of Alaska, and the first female Republican to be nominated for Vice Presidency, when she ran alongside John McCain in 2008.

Palin is a prominent figure in the Tea Party movement and has yet to disclose her plans for the next presidential election. (varsity.co.uk)

Founded in 1815, the Cambridge Union is the oldest continuously running debating society in the world, and the largest and most famous society at the University of Cambridge. In 2015, the Union will celebrate 200 years of free speech and the art of debating. Alongside the Union’s regular programme for the year ahead, a series of high-profile events have been organised to celebrate the Union’s bicentenary. (courtesy CUS.org)

How can a “washed-up, ditzy, has-been, stupid quitter” be invited to speak at the world’s most prestigious university? An institution that makes Harvard, Yale, Stanford and Princeton look like community colleges. My brain hurts.

She’s appearing with Stephen Fry, comedian and gay activist, Inna Schevchenko, a Ukrainian feminist, and Jon Snow, a journalist. It’s entirely possible that they invited her just to try and humiliate her.

Yep, it is. She just set it, and all good hunters know where they are and how to trip them.

Well if nothing else the students will learn how to face adversity with a smile and joyful attitude, she may not need to display it there but she is most adept at communicating righteous anger, she always wins.

Thank You for the Ping 2nddivisionVet!

Ping to Sarah's Amazing List!

Not to toot my own horn, but when I was College I got an invite to visit and possibly attend Cambridge.

Mother didn't want me too, being from the U.K. herself, She didn't want me going back to the Old Country.

Worst. Decision. Ever!

I wouldn't worry about that sweet Doodledawg.

Jon Snow doesn't know anything.

when do the protests begin? can’t let people hear any other point of view, after all...

Liberals always claim to be so tolerant of other views, but then get all shocked and outraged to find out there are other views.

That is how she should begin her speech.

Keep in mind the General Election is coming up on May 7th and anything she says about UKIP will be used by the pile on media against UKIP.

That will be a far from friendly audience. Good on her for taking up the challenge.

It reminds me a little of when Richard Nixon accepted the invitation in 1978 to speak at the Oxford Union. Although those in the room afforded the former president respect, and listened to him with politeness, the constant noise from protesters outside could be heard for practically the entire talk.

Undeterred, Nixon was absolutely superb. I think you can watch it on YouTube and it is very difficult not to be impressed by the sheer depth of the man’s knowledge on international affairs. He won over the room with ease.
