This opinion piece kills me. Ezekiel J. Emanuel, brother of Rahm, is a former senior health care adviser to President Obama. Now he writes a piece in The New York Times telling people to skip their annual physical. It says, Most think of it as the human equivalent of a 15,000-mile checkup and fluid change, which can uncover hidden problems and ensure longer engine life.
There is only one problem: From a health perspective, the annual physical exam is basically worthless.

Take that quote when you apply for life insurance, or when you want to increase your current policy, it is after all basically "worthless" how can they assess risk based on an exam that is worthless.
Maybe if there is no annual physical, folks will no longer notice that they have not kept their doctor.
Me too.
It's a remarkably efficient way to lead a long and happy life!
I suspect they listen to all the complaints, then concoct a statement that says the exact opposite. They’ll say or do anything to keep their cushy lifestyles.
I’m with you. I’m trying to be real good at listening to my own body and adjusting activities, nutrition and lifestyle to that. I’m not convinced that I’d be better off taking pharmaceuticals that mask symptoms. I’ll take the occasion aspirin or over the counter cough syrup, and they’re very effective with a drug-free body.
Frankly I think there is too much pushing unnecessary medical stuff.
I never had a physical/check-up. My husband does it all the time.
I have had plenty of trouble the last several years, but they were all pretty obvious and I went to the doctor to resolve problems.
I think it’s a way to guarantee doctors some patients and income, just as all the baby-seat nonsense guarantees Graco and Evenflo at least some business constantly.
Meanwhile, it brings up insurance (why for just checking a healthy person?), and puts off for visits people who really, really do have trouble without a doubt. Even those who just have the flu may not be able to get in as fast because all these prior check-ups exist taking up time.
I bring my son in but that is mostly to ensure he gets shots. (Now the doctor is starting to pry about “safety” and helmets and all that BS, also guaranteed income for the bike companies.) I’m not sure he needs to go to a dentist at this age, but the pressure is there and here we are.
This is getting grotesque.
Not too long ago, I talked with a doctor who said she goes to the annual general practice convention, which is gigantic. A part of this convention is now the “bad medical advice” recommendations being given by government panels.
Things like physicians should stop doing digital rectal exams for prostate cancer in men, and mammograms against breast cancer in women. All apparently in the effort to kill off people with treatable diseases. She said that after this briefing, if you can imagine a room filled with over a thousand physicians who are red-faced enraged...
It all boils down to the same thing: the government wants them to, “Let people die. Stop saving so many lives. If possible, start actively killing them.”
It’s good to know that the vast majority of physicians are as horrified by this as is everyone else, except socialist government apparatchiks.
Sure. Skip the annual physical. Come down with a terminal condition. Then they can refuse your care and tell you: “Sorry Mr. Jones. You are 69 years old. You are on social security and costing the nation a lot of money. Your Medicare is very expensive. But, if we let you die, then we save the money and have culled another old person off the rolls.” Just an attempt to cut more old folks. The old folks are the drain on the nation according to liberals. They want us gone. Dead. Off the money rolls. As a retired military person I get a retired military pay check and a social security check. They WANT me dead. The imperial federal government wants everyone over age 65 culled off the rolls of government money. My wife and I do annual physicals with our doctor. He tells us to do them. To do the check ups. Our doctor is with three other guys in a combined practice. They have the ability to do blood and urine testing on site. They have their own X-ray machine on site. They can do most things on site. The only thing they need is an MRI machine. If they had that, they would have most initial stuff covered.
My wife and I are BOTH 61 and are dumbfounded by all the prescription drugs so many of our contemporaries are taking. It’s about watching your diet, getting plenty of exercise and stuff like that.
We were designed as gardeners, not cubicle rats. People REALLY need to get up and walk around.
No checkup, but this same A-HOLE has no problem sticking the taxpayers for 50-75000 for a sex change.
I took my three youngest children for a well check. We had moved to a new town, and they needed a physician just in case they became unwell. Our BCBS plan didn’t pay for any of it. That was a shock to my system because we have always had coverage for well checks. It cost between $150 and $200 for each child. My other children are stuck going to the neighborhood Urgent Care now. We can’t afford to see a doctor for well checks. Ugh.
Obviously you’ve never had a doc check your prostate!.................LOL................
Watch the State of the Union.
EVERYone there will be EXEMPT from ObamaCARE
and you can bet your life that THEY, their families,
and their staff WILL have annual physicals
and no Death Panels through ObamaCARE (for them).
No, sometimes things happen and deteriorate. No regular every-day approach will change that. (I actually am now trying to avoid medications because I have already many that I chronically take.)
I am absolutely not against the medical profession and the tools they have.
But I think physicals are mostly a scam. And they take doctors’ time away from patients like me who really need to see someone. Because we KNOW something is wrong with us. It ain’t no guess, or hoping to find something.
The political "third rail" in this is that regular mammograms can't be shown to lead to any sort of a gain in life expectancy. But the promise of free stuff like that is what put Obamacare over the top.
It would have been much cheaper and much more efficient to just provide everybody with a "free" very high deductible major medical insurance that covered catastrophic illnesses.
Instead, this is what we got.
Listen, you moochers. You right wing nut jobs with your guns. We can’t have you using the money in this system to keep yourselves healthy. We need that money to pay for the transgendered 90 year old felon’s sex change reversal surgery. So you all just stay home. Don’t bother with that check up. You’re tough guys, aren’t you? You’ll be fine.
~ Ezekiel Emmanuel
(note: I cannot confirm if this is an actual quote but it’s accurate to his belief and that’s what matters right?)
When I was about 21 or 22 I picked up an NSU (irony alert - preacher’s daughter LOL)
Doctor did a DRE (whoa, that was a surprise!).
My father laughed, said wait until your 40s.
I thought that preventive healthcare was one of the "cores" of Obamacare, and wouldn't a basic checkup of your vital signs and bloodwork be considered part of that?
This truly is an evil bunch.
Obama Care is this:
Shutup about how it screws you, Don't look at your own health, & Don't listen to your doctor.
Why all the Czars ? Their advice is crap ,LOL,they must be there just to waste money and steal secrets to sell later
