Sen. Ted Cruz: ‘Our President Should Have Been There’
TIME ^ | January 12, 2015 | By Senator Ted Cruz

Posted on 01/12/2015 2:05:17 PM PST by Brad from Tennessee

We must never hesitate to stand with our allies. We should never hesitate to speak the truth. In Paris or anywhere else in the world.

On Sunday, leaders representing Europe, Israel, Africa, Russia, and the Middle East linked arms and marched together down Place de la Concorde in Paris. But, sadly, no one from the White House was found among the more than 40 Presidents and Prime Ministers who walked the streets with hundreds of thousands of French citizens demonstrating their solidarity against radical Islamic terrorists.

The absence is symbolic of the lack of American leadership on the world stage, and it is dangerous. The attack on Paris, just like previous assaults on Israel and other allies, is an attack on our shared values. And, we are stronger when we stand together, as French President François Hollande said, for “liberty, equality, and fraternity.”

Why? To see his friend Abbas? I’m glad he didn’t go and pretend to be against terrorism.

I looked up Golf Courses near Paris and the most exclusive ones are closed on weekends. The French have very restrictive work laws. They don’t go after your employer. They go after you. They weren’t going to get fined for Obama.

Ted is clearly not afraid to venture into “enemy” territory (e.g., Time Magazine). Props to him.

First we'd need to have a President.

What is surprising is that Time agreed to publish him. Maybe they’re having second thoughts about all liberal, all the time.

The problem is we have no president, we have a king and we should serve on him The Declaration of Independence.

He was not the main attraction, he wouldn’t be center-stage, there would be no “I, I, me, me” Obama speeches, he was tired from vacation, and...there were no golf courses poem.

In other words - in Obama’s opinion - there was nothing in it for him.

Mommy Valerie wouldn’t let him go to an adult affair.

I was surprised to find out they still issue a print edition. You used to see them in doctor’s offices and such but no more.

I absolutely disagree with Cruz on this, and I'm surprised there aren't more conservatives who see it this way.

I can't think of any basis for the belief that a U.S. leader has some kind of moral obligation to show up at a political rally in a foreign country. I can't even compile a picture in my mind of Ronald Reagan doing such a thing ... in France, of all places.

Where was B. Obama? And the disgraced Eric Holder didn't even bother to show up even though he was in Paris. It is embarrassing. Even CNN wondered, although they did try to make all kinds of excuses for B. Obama.

Give the poor guy a break!

He just got back from a three week all expense paid vacation in Hawaii with the missus and the kids. He hasn’t even had a chance to unpack his golf clubs yet. He needs a few weeks downtime with his feet up on his desk to rest up from his vacation.

Besides, who wants to go to France in January? He will probably fit in a trip this spring or summer when the weather is better for golf.

My cardiologist still carries Time. Used to have Newsweek when it was publishing print editions.

It was a selfie rally. Nothing more.

No, it isn't. Showing up at a useless, feel-good "unity rally" just because 40 other national leaders happen to be there is hardly a demonstration of leadership.

An American president should have been there. It’s a shame we don’t have one.
