Bill Clinton Gushes Over ‘Selma’: ‘I Stood Up and Started Cheering All By Myself’

EXCERPT

Good-naturedly referencing his friend Andrew Young—who marched with King and is prominent in the film—early in his speech, Clinton told the sold-out crowd, “I saw Andy earlier today and I said, ‘Andy, I just watched Selma. Were you ever that thin?’ (eliciting thunderous laughter) and he said yes, he was, that they were dodging so many bullets in droves they all used to be thin.”

As he continued to speak, he got decidedly more serious. “If you haven’t yet, go see the movie Selma,” he insisted, “and you will see the enormous pressures imposed on the King family and friends.” Clinton made it clear, however, that it was King’s philosophy of a “beloved community” that Selma most affirmed for him. “I was reminded all over again when I was sitting through Selma,” he shared.

“You know it wasn’t like I didn’t live through it,” the 68-year-old Clinton confided, “and I swear [it was] just like it was the first time. And, when they went across the bridge the second time, I stood up and started cheering all by myself and I roared like it was a surprise. But I was just evidence to the fact that we all want to live in a beloved community. We all want to think that we can have a home. We all want to think we can do great things because we have a launching pad,” he preached.

Good for him. Did he tell the lady on the floor in front him. Because that could cause some damage.

I call BS.

Clinton identified staunch segregationist J. William Fulbright as his mentor. Not only was Fulbright a segregationist, he filibustered the Voting Rights Act of 1957 and 1964 (bet you didn't know there WAS a Voting Rights Act of 1957, did you?) and he also voted against the 1965 Voting Rights Act.

MLK’s Dream was for people to be “...judged by their the content of their character not the color of their skin.”

Today the Democrats, professional race baiters like Jackson/Sharpton, politicians, etc, have destroyed that dream by regressing to claiming the color of your skin is the most important factor in judging someone....

These people, who dishonor MLK on almost a daily basis, are ridding the coattails of his fame, and should be called out for it.....but no one is brave enough to do it........

Andrew Young didn’t dodge bullets. Most of them dodged fire hoses and police dogs and police batons but I don’t think Young was one of them.

It’s sad that Americans now get their history from movies.

It’s also sad that democrat politicians lie and are never called on it.

No biggie. He “cried” for Ron Brown as well. He can turn it on or off, whatever is called for.

Blowhard O’Reilly was calling Jackson out on a daily basis. Then all of a sudden he stopped. I can only assume why.

Yea what ever.

The movie was a flop and they were hoping for more from it. Well what a great way to promote the movie by causing controversy and have public voices gushing over it.

I have no desire to see the movie just because it’s not my kind and will not go to it just because I ma supposed to .

Just said the same.

Anyone paying to watch it now due to all this hype is an idiot.
Just another movie to get the ignorant masses all bent out of shape and blame whitey for everything.

Bill needs some coffee to stay awake for these things.

"I'll have a mocha latte with whip cream on top in a blue cup.
And don't spill any."

"Does anybody else want coffee?"

Selma was nominated for the Best Picture Oscar (and nothing else). The left SOOOO wants this to win. I don't understand the recent fascination with movies and politics (like American Sniper and all). But I have always wondered about the Best Picture and Best Director awards. I mean, if you had the best picture, wouldn't you, by definition, be the best director? Not nominating the director is a sign that this is a perfunctory, affirmative action nomination. Only four times in Oscar history has a film won Best Picture when the director wasn't even nominated. Let's see what happens this year.

Of course the Academy words have always revolved around Hollywood politics, so worrying about them is pure futility. My list of top ten all time movies probably doesn't include one Best Picture winner. I don't need a group of elitist Hollywood snobs to tell me what movie to like.
