LITTLE ROCK (KATV) - Thousands of pro-life advocates marched to the State Capitol on Sunday for the 37th annual March for Life. A majority of newly elected Arkansas legislators and executive leaders were among those marching in the rally marking the 42nd anniversary of the issuing of the U.S. Supreme Court's Roe v. Wade decision.

Wayne Mays, president of Arkansas Right to Life, touted the unprecedented number of pro-life political candidates elected to office in Arkansas during the past general election. He said he feels more confident than ever with majority of Arkansas's elected officials sharing similar views to his organization.

“Folks, the 2014 elections were very, very good for unborn children and that's because of you,” said Mays to supporters on the steps of the Capitol Building on Sunday.

Newly elected Sen. Tom Cotton marched in the rally last year. He renewed his commitment to the pro-life message on Sunday, touching on the fact he himself is an expectant father.

“We don't just love and want to protect him,” said Cotton, referencing his unborn son. “We want to protect all unborn children who don't have a voice; who can't protect themselves.”

For the first time in several years, a sitting governor marched with supporters at the March for Life. Newly inaugurated Gov. Asa Hutchinson touched on his support for the pro-life movement since the beginning of his political career.

Hutchinson commended state legislators for introducing a new pro-life bill in the general assembly last week, adding that constituents should expect similar legislation as his tenure in office continues.

“As governor, I will sign those bills,” said Hutchinson in his speech to pro-life supporters.

I’m not a Constitutional expert, but I think this is how this is best handled, on a state by state basis.

The answer depends on how many Democrats vote in the Republican primary. The Democrats will know who their candidate is long before the SC primary, just like last time, and will move into the Republican primary to choose the Republican candidate.

Since I have been a voter, I’m not sure I have ever been represented by a pro-life legislator or state official. (I’m in CA). These Arkansans are so lucky.
