The Patriots used underinflated footballs on Sunday night.
The next question is how did it happen?
According to a National Football League letter about the investigation into the controversy that was shared with the Globe, the Patriots were informed that the leagues initial findings indicated that the game balls did not meet specifications. The league inspected each of the Patriots 12 game balls twice at halftime, using different pressure gauges, and found footballs that were not properly inflated.
According to ESPN, 11 of the 12 game balls were found to be underinflated by about 2 pounds each. The NFL specifications say they must be inflated to 12½ to 13½ pounds.
The investigation is still ongoing.
A league spokesman declined to comment Tuesday, and earlier in the day, NFL executive vice president Troy Vincent told Pro Football Talk that the investigation would ideally be complete within two or three days.
If the Patriots are found to have deliberately doctored footballs, the organization can be fined a minimum of $25,000, and if the NFL finds the incident egregious, the Patriots could potentially lose a draft pick. In 2007, commissioner Roger Goodell took away a first-round draft pick and fined Patriots coach Bill Belichick after determining the team had spied on an opponent.

No FB expert here but if they inspected them at 1/2 time and they failed why wasn’t something done at that time?
Sorry, but isn’t this like the 5th thread on this subject?
If one wants to buy an American football that is made in America, then one has to pay over $85 for one. All the common folk Wilson, Rawlings, Spalding, etc. are made in China which bugs me because I like to give American footballs to visiting foreigners and I hate to see that all of them at popular prices are made in China.

At least. But the days is young still. Expect more.

Add it to your collection along side Madden NFL
can’t they (media or nfl) at least use the correct physical units: pounds per square inch (psi) pressure. i think a 13 “pound” football would be kinda hard to chuck more than a few yards.
Go Patriots! I hope they win. There is only two teams left and out of the two I like the Patriots better. I don’t care about the under inflated footballs. The Patriots are like the Tea Party....always criticized for nothing.
You would think that when the official who hands the ball to the offense just before the play would have noticed something if the football was missing a little air.
From 2007 -
"This episode [spying on an opponent's defensive signals] represents a calculated and deliberate attempt to avoid longstanding rules designed to encourage fair play and promote honest competition on the playing field," Goodell said in a letter to the Patriots.

Why do you think they checked them at halftime?
Unfortunately, NFL rules, like most laws, assume that most people will be self-policing because they have common decency. The NFL is incapable of dealing with people who have no honor and cheat at every opportunity.
Where and at what temperature were they inspected prior to the game and at half time? Has anyone ever heard of NV=PRT?
The thing is, NEP are a good team and don’t need BB’s stupid cheating tricks. It embarrasses the team and fans ...

So what would you do?
You could add tariffs, so all the balls were expensive.
You could ban Chinese imports, so all the balls were expensive.
You could support price regulations, which would drive American manufacturers out of business, and all balls would be expensive.
You could vote to cease all redistribution of tax plunder, in which case you would be able to buy American products at low prices.
You choose: do you want welfare, or inexpensive American products; do you want food stamps, or inexpensive American products; do you want thousands of high priced bureaucratic jobs for incompetent bums, or inexpensive American products.
Tough choice, eh?
I saw a video of the Wilson factory which is the only company making footballs in the US ... when did they outsource to China?
That’s PV = nRT...
The officials replaced the balls at half time with properly inflated balls. The Patriots then scored another 4 touchdowns in the second half with properly inflated balls.
The Colts never scored in the second half.
They make expensive NFL game balls in America and for the kids on the block they have foreign operations.
They reinflated them at half time and the Patriots went on a tear, scoring 21 points in the 3rd quarter to their 17 in the first half. According to an NFL official, this morning, the only time they were not in the view of the officials is a 10 minute window while the ball boy had them before the game (10 minutes before kick off). I find it very hard to imagine it could have been done without the complicity of the official. Aside from that, they handled the balls all the first half and did not notice?
