In my first semester of law school Dean Harvey turned his Civil Procedure lecture over to a survivor of Auschwitz. For 45 minutes we listened to what he had to do to be the only member of his family to walk out alive. It was ghastly, but I had heard stories of the Holocaust before, had seen “Night and Fog” before, and wondered why we were hearing this.
At the end of his presentation, Dean Harvey went back to the podium and all he said was: “Your duty as lawyers is to make sure this never happens again.” Best lesson I ever had on the real meaning of the Rule of Law. Unfortunately, as we all walked out of the lecture hall, all of my classmates were saying “Yeah, but that can’t happen here.”
Having just received a degree in German, and studied a lot of German literature, I knew that’s also what the average German of 1927 would have said.
Any atrocity that has happened, can happen again. Plus some new ones, I’m sure.
Just look at the left's furious assault on the rule of law and constitutional rights by censoring speech and forcing people to violate fundamental religious beliefs. Perhaps most frightening is the return of anti-Semitism to Europe and America via very thinly disguised anti-Zionist and pro-Pali movements.
We have a President who thinks the Constitution means he can decree anything he wants until somebody stops him.
Oh, yeah, it could happen here.
We already have a demographically significant demographic group that is irrationally anti-Semitic, and the radicals who promoted this are in league with “Palestinian” “activists.”
Did you see the articles about the Ferguson, MO, “justice” organizers making a solidarity visit to “Palestine”?
There is one other thing. When I asked about the significance of Dachau, she dropped a handful of bones on the table, looked at them a bit and wrote down a strange series of letters and symbols. Must be some sort of code. She said keep it and give it to my grandchildren because they will know what to do with it and what they want to know about Dachau starts at about 44:00.
Here is what she wrote: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-PW4ujLpwu0
