In May 1881 US explorers approached Jeannette Island, Wrangell Island and Henrietta Island in the Arctic Ocean and claimed them for the United States.
But according to the Obama Department of State no claim exists today over these US islands. In fact the State Department is conspiring with Russian President Putin to give away Wrangell Island to Russians. Wrangell and its 200 mile exclusive economic zone (EEZ) has billions of barrels of oil/gas reserves and hundreds of millions of pounds of fisheries. It also has a strategic military location for tracking Russian moves in Arctic.
The Coast Guard is a component of the Department of Homeland Security. It unequivocally states:
“On 12 August 1881, he [William Reynolds] was at the head of the party that landed on what would be later named Wrangell Island and took possession of the island in the name of the United States.”

Seems to me there’s a proper procedure to address this situation that’s not being used. Obama is once again exerting his executive command as though he’s a dictator. I do believe that is the problem more than what occurred in 1916, or during the 41st Presidential Administration.
Obama has no right to act upon his own in any way, shape, or form on this sort of issue. He should be impeached, and removed from office immediately.

The United States has NO CLAIM on Wrangell, or any of the other islands near it.
The Soviets maintained an AIRBASE and radar station on Wrangell until the late 70’s. The Russians have has off and on Settlements on the island for the last 100 years, since at least 1914.

Probably started out confusing Wrangel Island and Wrangell Island.
I was wondering about that as I know I’ve been on Wrangell Island, but knew it was nowhere near Russia!

Kind of lost on those idiots who don't realize it's just a couple liberal pockets on the coast, while much of the state remains conservative.
Unfortunately though, the few liberal pockets call the shots, control the state, and make it very uncomfortable for those outside of those pockets.

However, according to the United States Department of State no such claim exists. The USSR/USA Maritime Boundary Treaty, which has yet to be approved by the Russian Duma, does not address the status of these islands nor the maritime boundaries associated with them.
The Obama Administration is reportedly giving away Wrangell, Bennett, Jeannette and Henrietta islands in Alaska to Russia. The federal government drew the line to put these seven Alaskan islands on the Russian side

True that, but be careful about painting with too broad a brush. Some make absurd statements that everyone in California is gay, even though they're a small minority in a couple pockets of the state. Some day we'll take control of the state back, as it was under Reagan and earlier times.
