Tesla Model S P85D 'Insane' Mode: NSFW Video Shows How Insane It Really Is
Green Car Reports ^ | January 28, 2015 | John Voelcker

Many Tesla fans and electric-car drivers now know about the Model S P85D, Tesla's all-wheel-drive electric car that's arguably the fastest four-door sedan on the market.

What most of them likely don't know is just what the car's ultimate performance mode, called "Insane," actually feels like.

Now there's a video out from Drag Times that shows how astoundingly, jaw-dropping, amazingly, startlingly, incredibly insane the Insane mode actually is.

NOTE: Video is NSFW, has rude words (delivered in tones of shock, horror, awe, amazement, and joy).

With 1.3 million views in three days, the reactions to Drag Times CEO Brooks Weisblat's demonstration of standing-start acceleration pretty much speak for themselves (above).

Stations are strategically placed to minimize stops and are conveniently located near restaurants, shopping centers, and WiFi hot spots.

The problem with that is if your traveling who the heck want to get off the beaten path and get stuck in mall traffic for a charge?

“Tesla has some interesting technology. It’s still nothing more than an interesting, and very expensive, science project. And a toy.”

Tesla is a profitable company making great cars. They are committed to a $30k car for the masses.

“When the fueled engine can run at it’s design RPM it blows the electric motor away for cost-savings.”

Not true. Even at highway speeds, electricity costs the equivalent of around $1 per gallon.

I hope you forgot your sac tag. Somebody pays for the electricity, the person charging their car pays in time. That’s Economics 101: http://townhall.com/columnists/walterewilliams/2010/09/01/something_for_nothing/page/full

How much money is it costing you to post here complaining about electric cars?

What, you think those electric motors aren’t connected to a computer to compensate for road conditions? Even most gas cars, high end anyway, have that now.

“Came onto FR and posts nothing but pro-Tesla content.”

Actually, if you look through my comment history, I am a fan of electric cars in general, including the Chevy Volt and the Nissan Leaf. Elon Musk has criticized those cars and I think he is way off base for doing so.

Maybe you like that America and Europe's oil addiction enriches the Middle East, Russia, Venezuela, etc. However, I think driving on American-made electricity is far better.

Yeah I understand there are some places in the NE paying around 20 cents per kwh. Could make for some interesting electric bills.

We’re talking about a luxury car.

They tend to hold their value quite well.

But they’re not for every one.

Well considering opportunity cost of the other things I could be using my genius wiring talent for and using the same method as a lawyer to calculate my billable hours.... I just consider it a public service.

Obviously you are biased since you keep repeating that lie.

No I am a not biased, just a savy investor.

And btw, before calling someone a liar you really ought to do a little more research, since this quote came from Musk himself.

WSJ article was not dated, but I found that he stated this January 14, 2015. And btw with a little Business 101 lesson for you..... Reported earnings aligns with operational P & L, and often will not include R & D, and other special below line charges.

Not true and not honest.
The cost/gal is about $1.50 equiv.
More important though is that the extra cost of the electric car is NEVER paid for in at-speed driving!

While with enough stop-and-go driving the extra cost CAN be paid for in the lifetime of the vehicle for hybrids.
Though not for 100 grand toys- but hundred grand toys purchasers wouldn’t care anyway!

“No I am a not biased, just a savy investor.”

Who was mistaken is saying that Tesla was losing money when their OFFICIAL earnings reports show profits ... Three million in the last third quarter.

Tesla states that earnings in fourth quarter will be over 35 cents per share.

Right.

High end cars don’t see 300k miles like a Camry or Fusion. They’re ditched before 200k miles because complex systems break down and they’re too annoying to ignore and too expensive to fix. Otherwise they become collector items and no one cares about cost per mile on a collector item.
