“The anti-vaccine movement has been around at least 10 yrs or longer ....why no outbreaks until now?”

It’s been around maybe longer than that.

The longer it goes, the more kids are unvaccinated and provide a population for a measles epidemic to spread.

The illegals who bring the initial case have been consistent for 25 years at least.

There have been isolated measles cases for years introduced by illegals for years on a pretty consistent level.

But now the Ameircan idiot conspiracy whackos have increased in number and the number of kids not immunized has increased.

The only ones who can get Measles are those who don't get the vaccination. (with a very few exceptions) So what's the big deal?

Weird that it's okay for the US population to risk infection from Ebola being allowed in the US, but to be so concerned about people preferring the risk of Measles over the risk of vaccination.

“Measles was worse than chicken pox.”

Yeah, but the pox can leave scars.

From my own experience, I have had to have repeated immunizations as for some reason I lose immunity. I am wondering if this is the case with a good percentage of people.

It is because it is one of the most contagious diseases there is.

Airborne transmission.
I think that it is contagious before an infected person shows symptoms.
90% of people without immunity will catch it when they come in close proximity to an infected person.

The only reason that MORE than 95 people haven’t caught it is because of immunizations.

No, I don’t believe the immunizations wear off.

The media is censoring the obvious illegal source

Given that a large number of cases can be traced to Disney properties, which are fairly expensive to visit these days, it does not seem obvious that impoverished refugee children are the main problem.

The biggest groups that do not vaccinate are hipsters and illegals. Any surprise this happened in California?

The #’s of people opting out of or delaying vaccinations in the US has been decreasing year over year. It is just the media that keeps goosing the general public making it seem like it is a growing “menace.”

In this current outbreak, and in the ones preceding it, the #’s of infected having full vaccination is identical, 20 %. So the #’s of people who are fully vaccinated and still contract the disease has gone up significantly.

Also, the #’s of those who delay or opt out of vaccines vary widely by state. With some like Oregon or Vermont being as high as 6 % with others like CA being 1-2 %. However, there has been no increase in infections in areas with drastically higher rates of non vaccination. These same #’s bear out around the world in areas with no anti vaccination trends.

The fact is measles is resurging around the world at similar rates and it is not just in areas of non vaccination. It is also not resurging in greater #’s in areas with greater rates of non vaccination.

Finally, there has been no resurgence of other vaccine preventable diseases in areas of significantly higher non vaccination. All of which proves the maxim that correlation is not causation.

Last I checked, Mexico was not part of the U.S., so why are those being added to U.S. totals? Or did they mean New Mexico, and their map and reporting are wrong?

Not to mention the risk of shingles when you get older. I had chicken pox when I was young (without complications or scars) and got shingles in my 50s, before the shingles vaccine was widely available. Shingles was much worse than chicken pox.

Yeah, but the pox can leave scars.

And can lead (in my case, did lead) to Shingles in later years.

Never mind, reading comprehension is my friend. Apparently those are cases that supposedly originated in Disneyland.

This of course leaves some infants very vulnerable, and the effect of rubella on the unborn babies of women who are pregnant and don’t realize it can be terrible-<<<<<<<<<

You are right. Rubella is what we used to call the “3-Day” or “German” Measles. That is the one that is known for the serious effects on pregnant women. Rubeola is the Measles my friends and I got for around 10 days in the 50’s, a rather horrible experience. I believe the current outbreak is likely Rubeola, though perhaps both. The MMR is said to protect against both types of virus.

All the cases in Sacramento have been traced back to D_Land. The state office that verifies the illness has been overwhelmed and is on backlog. One five year old girl died and he had her shots. There are two and after a while you may need a booster. Of the 70 some people that have it , five have had their shots. This indicates that a percentage of the population will get the shots and still come down with it.

I was thinking of the churches who “adopted” some of the children who entered illegally last year. I could see them getting a deal at Disneyland to take some underprivleged kids to the park for the day. Or, really, it only takes one or two kids coming down with measles to infect a bunch of folks. If they had full-blown Rubeola, I don't see them even wanting to go anywhere, but maybe with early symptoms.
