Paramedics were delayed Berkeley by protest — patient later died

Paramedics took nearly a half hour to reach a stricken 62-year-old man, who later died, because they were told to wait for a police escort as a result of a protest over police brutality in downtown Berkeley, city records show.

It would have taken just a couple of minutes for Berkeley firefighters to drive from Station No. 2 on Berkeley Way to Alvin Henry Jones Jr., who had collapsed near an elevator at an apartment complex at 2175 Kittredge St. on the evening of Dec. 7.

But hundreds of people had gathered downtown to protest against police killings of unarmed black men in Missouri and New York.

I can only hope that these protestors at sometime in future will find themselves in a situation where they or one of their loved ones needs medical aid and the emergency crews are delayed by a demonstration.

Speaking seriously: Can the victim’s family (because, if proven to be true, he is a victim) sue everyone involved in civil court? I’m sure that someone organized that event.

Whatever happened to that old “I Can’t Breathe” bull****? Haven’t heard much about it lately.

So the disruption caused by the ‘black lives matter’ protest in Berkeley CA cost a 63yo black man his life.

Go figure...

That guy chose to live in Berkeley. I wonder how he voted.

This puts to rest any notion that these are “peaceful” protests.

“That guy chose to live in Berkeley. I wonder how he voted.”

Even in Berkeley there are some conservatives. Heck, somebody has to do the work. I have a buddy who makes me look like a pinko that lives behind enemy lines in Madison Wis.

Jones arrived at a hospital 52 minutes after the 911 call. He died two days later from natural causes...

Because when you have a life-threatening medical emergency and treatment is delayed 45 minutes by thugs, naturally, you die...

Yes. The next edition of Webster’s is going to have a photo of the protest and a photo of the victim accompanying the definition of “irony”.

Evidently, Mr. Jones’ life didn’t matter.

Prayers for Mr. Jones and his loved ones.

Good point. Hopefully, that was not the guy in the story.

But, when planning your retirement location, maybe best to consider whether emergency vehicles can reach you during civil unrest.

In most states, there’s a charge that you can throw up there, with jail-time involved for this type of action. It’s rarely used but in this case....plenty of witnesses and documentation.

Charge them with manslaughter. That should get them 10 years.
