In an interview with Ezra Klein of Vox, President Obama said traditional market forces that used to redistribute income are failing and the time for government to do it instead has arrived.
The interview, which ran today, was conducted January 23.
Touting what he referred to as inclusive capitalism, Obama made the case for what actually sounds a lot like socialism.
So part of our job is, what can government do directly through tax policy? What weve proposed, for example, in terms of capital gains that would make a big difference in our capacity to give a tax break to a working mom for child care. And thats smart policy . . .
We also still have to focus on the front end. Which is even before taxes are paid, are there ways that we can increase the bargaining power: making sure that an employee has some measurable increases in their incomes and their wealth and their security as a consequence of an economy thats improving. And thats where issues like labor laws make a difference. Thats where say in shareholder meetings and trying to change the culture in terms of compensation at the corporate level could make a difference. And theres been some interesting conversations globally around issues like inclusive capitalism and how we can make it work for everybody.
Capitalism, Obama indicated, is no longer working to get enough money out of the hands of the rich and into the hands of workers:
I think that part of whats changed is that a lot of that burden for making sure that the pie was broadly shared took place before government even got involved. If you had stronger unions, you had higher wages. If you had a corporate culture that felt a sense of place and commitment so that the CEO was in Pittsburgh or was in Detroit and felt obliged, partly because of social pressure but partly because they felt a real affinity toward the community, to re-invest in that community and to be seen as a good corporate citizen.
Today what you have is quarterly earning reports, compensation levels for CEOs that are tied directly to those quarterly earnings. Youve got international capital that is demanding maximizing short-term profits. And so what happens is that a lot of the distributional questions that used to be handled in the marketplace through decent wages or health care or defined benefit pension plans those things all are eliminated. And the average employee, the average worker, doesnt feel any benefit.
Obama, singing from the traditional Leftist hymnal, said we must make sure that folks at the very top are doing enough of their fair share. He complained about the winner-take-all aspect of this modern economy and the need to be investing enough in the common good.
Because, you see, you didnt build that. And you dont own it either.

It will sell. They must have focus-grouped the term “Inclusive Capitalism” for at least a year before rolling it out.
The majority out there actually agrees that the “traditional mechanisms for distributing income have broken down and the government should now do something”.
To cut to the heart of the matter, as both Karl Marx and Obama would put it, the Bourgeoisie have a stranglehold on the Proletariat. The only possible answer is redistribution of Bourgeoisie wealth and other assets.
Communism rebranded.
Good one.
What they don’t get is that they’re reaping the self fulfilling prophesy of the corporatist policy championed and enacted by the Democrats over the last 20 years (starting with Clinton and Robert Rubin).
We don’t really have anything akin to a free market capitalist system. We have Corporatism, goverment policy being implemented through a limited number of large corporations, the leaders and wealthier shareholders of e
which are allowed to grossly enrich themselves by acquiescing to what the government demands.
The best example of this is ObamaCare, which the big health companies love because the government funnels massive amounts of money into their coffers via the individual and employer mandates.
Same as it ever was...
The past 6 years have been great for Baraq’s crony capitalist affiliates. Of course there’s no chance the MSM will point that out to the teeming masses.
And during the past 6 years, fast food employment transitioned from a scorned “McJob” to the aspiration of the middle class.
Inclusive Capitalism allows someone who didn’t make an investment have the same power over corporate assets and decision as a shareholder. This is made possible by the fiat money and regulatory power of the fascist state that we increasingly have today.
The left has long referred to such usurpers as “stakeholders”. If they need money to influence a corporation, they can create it out of thin air, leveraging in part from the private wealth of both the corporation and its shareholders that they store in the government’s money. Or stakeholders can use money created out of thin air to buy influence with cash-hungry state legislators, such as happened with Common Core.
Our first Marxist President must have read Atlas Shrugged. Or his speech writer did. Why make it up new ways of packaging it when Ayn Rand did such a good job of it already?
“War on women” out, “inclusive capitalism” in.
get enough money out of the hands of the rich and into the hands of workers...
The problem here is that Obama is eliminating the jobs, so there are fewer workers. Now he's running out of rich hands to pay for the suddenly permanently disabled workers.

“A good economy doesnt depend on making sure the pie is cut equally. It depends on baking more pies.”
And that is something socialists just don’t get.
I may watch it sometime — if I ever feel like vomiting
So Obama has Inclusive Capitalism and Jeb Bush has Reform Conservatism. Neither will work.
RIGHT! EXACTLY what we need!
Communist Capitalism!
