GOP lawmaker denies global warming as Inslee climate bill advances
The Seattle Times ^ | February 11, 2015 | by Jim Brunner

Gov. Jay Inslee’s proposal to cap state carbon emissions and impose $1 billion a year in new charges on oil refineries, aluminum smelters and other top polluters passed its first legislative hurdle Tuesday, clearing the state House Environment Committee on a party-line vote.

But as the bill headed for a final committee vote, the ranking Republican on the committee, Rep. Matt Shea, R-Spokane Valley, raised a line of argument that GOP leaders have largely shied away from this year. Shea, one of the legislature’s most conservative members, disputed the overwhelming scientific consensus that global warming is occurring, likely due to human activity.

He was referring to the contention, frequently repeated by climate-change skeptics, that the planet has stopped warming over the last couple decades. It’s an argument that repeatedly has been debunked. While it’s true that there have been pauses or variations in warming, the overall trend has not changed, according to scientists.

Well, actually, no. Even NOAA and the Met admit that's true. Of course, in the next breath they claim the warming will resume, but they can't say when or why the "pause" continues despite substantial growth in CO2 concentrations, which their models claim should be causing warming.

Yes, the trend is clear.

It is currently not warming.

Shea, one of the legislature’s most conservative members, disputed the overwhelming scientific consensus that global warming is occurring, likely due to human activity.

Today's eminent authority on evolution, Steve Jones, tells us (In his book, "Darwin's Ghost" page 231. He wrote ...

"As the moon saps its neighbor's rotational energy, the globe slows it's spin. Corals have daily and annual surges of activity, and growth rings from four hundred million years ago show that there were then four hundred days a year."

Jones then goes on to write ...

"The geological record is the court of last appeal for all theories of evolution. Although biologists still argue about how the process works, fossils make it impossible for anyone, biologist or not, to deny that it happened."

Go figure!

“While it’s true that there have been pauses or variations in warming, the overall trend has not changed, according to scientists.”

So what trend is that? Is it the “obvious trend” from the 1970’s (cooling), or the “obvious trend” from the 90’s (warming). Based on the long-term inter-glacial trends of millions of years, and our current solar sun-spot index, it would not surprise me if we are headed towards a full-blown cold period with mile-thick ice over Chicago.

“...and impose $1 billion a year in new charges on oil refineries, aluminum smelters and other top polluters.”

That right there says all one needs to know. It doesn’t have anything to do with science or pollution.

So what trend is that

The trend in their models, of course.

It would be nice to think mankind has the power to alter the Holocene glacial cycle so that Earth doesn't have to live through another ice age, but despite all their computer models we don't have that power.

This is what passes as 'journalism' today. Pathetic.

Opinion as the author is obviously very prejudiced and schooled in climate “speak” (phrases designed to belittle he who would not fall in line and blindly accept the bogus information on which claims of man made climate change are based).

Looks like Washington can look forward to $1 billion worth of jobs leaving the state soon.

I am a native of Olympia and a former state worker. The unanimous mindset of the state government colossus is frightening. While people in other areas of the country may question the prevailing Democrat party line, we here in Washington allow no deviation! We need to suffer on behalf of the planet!

I am tired of hearing about their CONSENSUS, the only thing I want to hear is FACT, SCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN FACT.
