U.S. Embassy Marines in Yemen handed over their M-9 pistols and M-4 carbines before evacuating the chaotic country with diplomatic personnel, the Pentagon said Wednesday.
The Marines also left behind several vehicles at the airport in the capital city of Sanaa before departing on a civilian flight, said Army Col. Steve Warren, a Pentagon spokesman.
Warren said the Marines destroyed their machine guns and other crew-served weapons before leaving the Embassy for the airport. He also said that it was unclear who now had custody of the weapons and vehicles that were surrendered.
A Marine spokesman could not immediately say whether the surrender of weapons by Embassy Marines in an evacuation was unprecedented.

As a USAF Cold War veteran, I've never understood how my untrained fellow civilians suddenly became so comfortable with “acceptable attrition rates” when they obviously don't understand the entire concept.
I wonder if they would support the USMC if/when “they” decided to act on their ultimate primary duty, and launched a military coup in the USA?
I haven't heard a lot of public calls for that yet, so like you I say:

We landed at MCAS El Toro and from there flew to SF. If any hippie puke tried to spit on us, we would’ve broke their chicken necks.
Spent a week in SF visiting family and the people in the bars refused our money and bought us all the beer we could drink. Met the fishing boats at Fisherman’s Wharf to buy fresh-caught crabs, and the fishermen gave us bags of crabs for a buck and refused to take a dollar more.
My memories of San Francisco are of great people.
Under most evacuation orders, the entire post to include all DS personnel are evacuated, leaving behind the Ambassador (or in the case of a Consulate, the CG or Consul General) with on Information Management Specialist (IMS) who in foreign service jargon are Communicators. The communication and Amb or CG will be the final members of a post to evacuate. These final personnel will retreat to the most secure part of the embassy or consulate and continue to maintain final communications with Washington.

By all means, Caliph B. Hussein should have custody and redistribute the weapons wealth...just what we freaking need.
So the solution would have been to provide the Marines the dignity of leaving on a military aircraft. They could have retained their weapons in that case and not 'surrendered'. Marines don't 'surrender'. They fight or die fighting. This is utter and complete bullhockey. More demorilization from Obama's department of white flags.
