GOP Senator Wants to Wave the White Flag on DHS Funding

Facing a potentially tough re-election battle, Illinois Republican Mark S. Kirk has had enough of the standoff over funding the Department of Homeland Security and wants the Senate to pass a clean bill.

“Yeah, I think in the end,” Kirk said when asked if Majority Leader Mitch McConnell should have the Senate pass a DHS spending bill without language designed to block President Obama’s executive actions on immigration.

“I generally agree with the Democratic position here,” Kirk said. “I think we should have never fought this battle on DHS funding.”

His comments come after Senate Democrats filibustered a House-passed bill to fund the agency three times over objections to the provisions stopping the White House immigration actions.

Now House and Senate GOP leaders are at an impasse over how to fund the agency with House bill unable to clear the Senate. Congress will have to act by the end of the month or the DHS would face a partial shutdown.

Kirk, who is up for re-election in 2016, appears to be stuck in the middle. He may face an uphill battle to victory given that Illinois voted for President Barack Obama with 25- and 17-point margins in 2008 and 2012, respectively.

No surprise that Mark Kirk wants to surrender.

See the plan was to go through the motions, McConnell and Reid got together to make sure the House bill didn't advance, and played the game to put pressure on the House.

But the House is having none of it (maybe because the speaker was challenged and unprecedented calls and emails came in and they're feeling the heat) and they will not be sending any other bill to the senate.

Mark says "we should pass a clean bill" but the Senate can't amend the bill because his buddies the democrats aren't allowing the senate to get to the point where it can debate and amend. And it can't introduce it's own bill because only the House can do that, and they wont.

So Mark needs to talk to six of his democrat buddies if anything is going to move forward.

[Facing a potentially tough re-election battle]

It’s time for Kirk to go.

This is why the GOP cannot have nice things.

We have quislings galore, while the Dems work in locksteps.

McConnell should be taking this guy to the woodshed, but thanks to Mitch, the Dems still shut down the Senate at will.

And people like Kirk are part of the reason why.

Now that the threat of terrorism has been eliminated by Obama, I think we can completely eliminate the DHS and the NSA.

This is probably a damn good time for the Presidential want-a-bees in the Senate to show just how much leadership ability they have. After all it is really and easy choice;
Fight or Cave.

McConnell and Boehner are not men.

They are playground sissies who piss on themselves.

They hold all the cards, yet they tie the amnesty vote to Homeland Security.

For heaven’s sake, tie it to the justice department, or State department, something that no one gives a rat’s arse about anyway.

Tie it to the congressional and executive travel budget.

Now they have set themselves up to be blamed by every media organization in the world for endangering our security.

No matter that “Homeland Security” is a farce and an evil until itself.

McConnell and Boehner will squirm and whizz themselves once again, Tweedledum and Tweedledummer.

Yeah, this and how they just fell short of veto-proof pipeline vote...believe nothing they say. McConnell and Boehner really do hate all of us and we are their subjects and they DO NOT have our country’s back or our best interests in their hearts. I believe all of them are under blackmail.

Meanwhile Operation Net Neutrality marches on in the bakground towards completion. Post while you can. After it goes fully operational you may suddenly find your posts missing, that is even if the website sill exists and didnt accidentally get scrubbed for purposes of “neutrality”...which will really mean favor towards the left bias ot neutral by any means

No surprise that Mark Kirk wants to surrender.

Sorry to say that you are right about that.

But it should be noted that Mark Kirk is currently the best bet to be a One Term Illinois Republican Senator. He was one of our big victories in the 2010 election and we knew then that he was a Lefty. I'm betting that for him to be re-elected in Illinois will require a big GOP victory in the Presidential election.

But better our Lefty than a Dem lefty. That is unless we think we can do better in the 2016 primary and again in the General Election. A doubtful proposition.

But in all of this I defer to Impy.

As I recall, Peter Fitzgerald was pretty conservative. But I can’t remember the circumstances of his election in ‘98. I know Braun was corrupt.
