This is a story with various reports flying from multiple directions and it’s hard to get a grasp on exactly what’s happening. What we know at the moment is that ISIS is claiming it has seized control of the al-Asad air base in the Ramadi area of Iraq. According to multiple twitter feeds the Iraqi army has lost contact with its people inside the base. From what we can tell the 300 Marines are on location to train Iraqi military. The Pentagon is pushing back on these initial reports about al-Asad. Maybe the “lost” communication is so the Marines can engage the enemy properly.
Don’t get me wrong. I believe the Marines will make a good accounting of themselves. I know; I’m a former Marine. Still, nothing in these reports speaks to the resources available or on their way to assist. It may be time to fix bayonets.
Part of me hopes this is true...our Marines vs. a bunch of Islamic shitheads - 10 to 1 shithead advantage, and our guys will make mincemeat out of them.
If they are given the correct ROE, it will be a bloodbath for the bad guys.
Just hope one of our guys captures it on video and posts it to youtube.

Exactly. I hear this about the Iranian Mullahs too. But it never seems like -today- is the right day to attack Israel.
Also, I think that no matter what Obama orders, air support would be horrendous if the camp was going to be over run.
That’s when the adults walk in and have the serious grown up talk with the boy king.
There better be squadrons of F-35s,F-22, F-15s, A-10s, and ground troops headed their way ASAP. If those Marines die or are captured there will be hell to pay.

A recent radio news story said that ISIS forces seized a small city (more likely a town) miles away from the base, but possibly on the road to it.
That would make more sense than trying to take the air base and subject themselves to our air power.
Still, with added Jordanian and re-entering UAE fighters, our air strike capabilities are substantial increased and widened.
The first rule of any military news story is that it is always wrong or exaggerated. You have to wait at least 24 hours to begin to get really accurate information on the situation.
I’m sure our Marines on the ground are prepared for any ISIS attack and our forces in-theater aren’t going to let them get overrun, Obama, Hagel and Dempsey be damned.

As an example, look at two retired SEALs and the amount of hell they unleashed for something like 8 hours in Benghazi.
Multiply that by about 150,,,
Attacking 300 Marines is a deadly hard serious fight, for serious assault troops.
