In 1963, when I was a wee lad, the Baldwin Hills dam in Los Angeles developed a crack and was leaking water. Stan Chambers was interviewing an expert from the LA water district. The man said “that dam will never break.” As soon as the words left his mouth the dam broke, live on TV.

I remember watching that as well, I was 13 at the time. Stan was great.

Hi CA, it's been a long time.

Strange, isn't it? Factor in the Brian Williams story and it's a bad time to be a reporter. Kyle Kraska was shot 10 times and survived. That's pretty remarkable. Jerry Dunphy was an ABC anchor in LA. He was shot at years ago but the shooter missed. There is no shortage of kooks around.

Are you suggesting that media people are dying in disproportionate numbers compared to the general population?

Is it possible that media people (because they are more observable) are noticed when they die compared to the general population?

Well .. I suppose it’s possible .. they are more visible than most.

However, it just seemed that recently we have had so many of them pass away within days of each other .. I just found it curious.

OMG Gary Owens, and now Stan Chambers. It’s certainly Friday the 13th.

R.I.P Stan. You were an inspiration. I wish all T.V. journalists had your character.
