I remember him as I have not watched the local news in so long that I think of him still there reporting.

Whoa! 11 children!

When I moved to the Southland, in 1981, I was not impressed with what passed for news, on TV. I liked Jess Marlowe, and I was immediately drawn to Mr. Chambers. If I closed my eyes, I could easily imagine that he was a neighbor, on the front porch, filling me in, on the big story.

I met the man. He had 13 kids. He was the first reporter to report TV news in a helicopter back in the late 40’s. He was the first to report live TV news outside of the television studios. I could go on and on. I remember when he was in his late seventies he was reporting live on a huge fire that was moving towards him. The anchor in the studio told him “Be careful Stan, that fire is coming right at you.” He said, cooly, “ reporting live from the Malibu fire, this is Stan Chambers.” What a great man. RIP Stan. Sympathy to Stan Jr and all 13 of his kids.

I knew, or met with Stan, any number of times both at home and work. He is a lot nicer than you would think, and most think he is a nice guy. He was better than that. Great family guy, great family.

There is a book out there about his 60 years at KTLA.

The articles say Stan worked for KTLA for 63 years. So anyone who saw him growing up, it doesn't really date them!
