Remember him well. RIP.
Stan Chambers was an icon at KTLA channel 5, I grew up listening to him.
RIP Stan.
Yeah I just hear on KFI Radio news
For freepers who don’t know this guy is legend here in SO CAL
I met the man. He had 13 kids. He was the first reporter to report TV news in a helicopter back in the late 40’s. He was the first to report live TV news outside of the television studios. I could go on and on. I remember when he was in his late seventies he was reporting live on a huge fire that was moving towards him. The anchor in the studio told him “Be careful Stan, that fire is coming right at you.” He said, cooly, “ reporting live from the Malibu fire, this is Stan Chambers.” What a great man. RIP Stan. Sympathy to Stan Jr and all 13 of his kids.
one of the best and sadly die breed
News people are dropping like flies!
I remember him...RIP
I remember Stan Chambers. Along with Hal Fischman, KTLA had a good news staff. RIP.
Wow...the death of a true Icon here in SoCal....
Apropos, given the death of journalism we are seeing now.
RIP Mr. Chambers.
Watched Stan for many, many years in SoCal. He was the most natural TV reporter I ever saw. A true pioneer in his field. RIP
I think he was one of the last true news reporters. No slant. Lived in LA my whole life and remember him well.
RIP

Unlike Peter Jennings, Stan Chambers actually was shot at while flying in a helicopter during the 1965 Watts Riots. The sporting goods stores were looted and the hunting rifles were fired at the KTLA newscopter. I remember watching live. Stan said something like, “Uh oh. Those flashes down there are muzzle flashes from high powered rifles. We had better get out of here. Reporting live, Stan Chambers.” He covered the the 1992 LA riots as well.
In 1963, when I was a wee lad, the Baldwin Hills dam in Los Angeles developed a crack and was leaking water. Stan Chambers was interviewing an expert from the LA water district. The man said “that dam will never break.” As soon as the words left his mouth the dam broke, live on TV.
I hope somebody puts together a documentary on the life and times of Stan Chambers.
RIP.
