An earlier version of this column incorrectly stated that teacher layoffs in Milwaukee in 2010 happened because Gov. Scott Walker “cut state aid to education.” The layoffs were made by the city’s school system because of a budget shortfall, before Mr. Walker took office in 2011.

NYT never lets the facts stand in the way of a good story.
“I didn't say dumb,” Dean clarified. “I said unknowledgeable.”
As in:
"Bill Gates is 'unknowledgeable' because he didn't complete college."
And the follow-up should have been, "Exactly what pertinent knowledge is he lacking from not completing college?"
I'd bet that Dean would have ended up sounding "unknowledgeable"...
It’s a non-apology apology, worthy of a Leftist.
The attack piece was most likely above-the-fold, 24 point font bolded.
The “retraction” was on page 78, 6 font, next to the personal ads used for casual sexual transactions in the airport men’s rooms.
A correction is not an apology. An apology is due Mr. Walker.
Translation: Our lies were fact checked by the internet.

Unknowledgeable is an odd word. It could maybe describe a hidden fact, but it's quite hard to see how it could describe a person. And, even if it could describe a person, it would indeed mean that person is "dumb". Additionally though, Dr. Dean should know that "dumb" describes someone who cannot speak, not someone who is unteachable.
The fact that Dr. Dean has such a weak grasp of the English language, as well as such a weak grasp of medical terms, says to me that it is he who lacks proper education, not Governor Walker. Note, that I am calling education something that one LEARNS while in school, not simply the number of years spent in school. It may be that Dr. Dean spent a great number of years in school, it appears that those years resulted in very little education.
What benefit, may I ask, is a medical degree for someone, such as Howard Dean, who sought the presidency and who now comments on others’ lack of education. What did his education provide him that would have qualified him to be president?
Scott Walker not having completed his degree may just become a problem for the college degree mills that benefit from having as many students get into debt paying big money to support college professors. Knowledgeable young people might decide they are intelligent enough to earn a living without the benefits or possibly constraints of a degree.
And if the restriction is for a presidential candidate to have a college/university degree, which makes you educated though perhaps not exactly knowledgeable; then perhaps since the president is also the Commander in Chief of the military, then there should be a requirement that a presidential candidate have served in the military. I think Dean’s response to that would be quite, uhm...loud and undignified for an educated man as he.
Does she actually have this degree or has she made it up?

Gail Collins can’t even get propaganda right. Unless she honestly thinks so little of her readers that she thought such a simple lie that Walker was not even governor during those layoffs would be overlooked.
