Scott Walker's immigration problem: He backed the McCain-Kennedy immigration bill [truncated]
Politico ^ | February 18, 2015 | Gabriel Debenedetti

Posted on 02/19/2015 7:02:11 AM PST by C19fan

Scott Walker was definitive when asked about his position on illegal immigration earlier this month: “We need to secure the border. I think we need to enforce the legal system. I’m not for amnesty,” he told ABC News. “I’m not an advocate of the plans that have been pushed here in Washington.” But the likely presidential candidate apparently stood on another side of that debate as the Milwaukee County Executive in 2006. That year, he signed a resolution calling on Congress to pass the Secure America and Orderly Immigration Act, a bill authored by John McCain and Teddy Kennedy that was denounced at the time by conservatives as “amnesty” — and remains anathema to party activists.

From the article... “At the same time, former Florida governor Jeb Bush has his own history of grappling with immigration policy, unlike his relative newcomer rival in the frontrunner circle.”

So the entire point is to pimp Jeb. No sale.

With the idiots that believe this crap we will be up against the same as with Romney. Lessor of the two evils and lose the election. Half of the crap on Romney was pure BS. That is the method of some of the blogs here who are closet liberals. Wake up before we are taken again.

I don't trust him yet on this issue myself, but the links people put up are a bunch of crap. He's from Wisconsin, a state that doesn't deal much with this issue. If he declares, he will have to study it, make pronouncements on the issue, and say what he will do about it.

Until then, the people here that KNOW he is an amnesty shill can shove it where the sun don't shine, becuase none of them know anything.

Full disclosure: I prefer Cruz, but am not going to be a lying shill (like some here are) to help get him the nomination.

Sad point is that every one of the candidates or anticipated candidates for the presidency have at one time or another supported some form of amnesty. Despite any protestations otherwise, they will agree to amnesty before they ever opt to deport illegals.

Reagan started this mess and I doubt any of these candidates will stop it. Can we really get any commitment from them that might stand? Enforce the current laws? Secure the border? Deny jobs to illegals? Stop in-state tuition, health care, tax refunds, drivers licenses? Real action, not words on any front would be improvement over the talk and no action we’ve seen.

Politico is not one of us.

The question is not whether or not Politico is one of us or not, the question is did Scott Walker do as they have stated he did:

But the likely presidential candidate apparently stood on another side of that debate as the Milwaukee County Executive in 2006. That year, he signed a resolution calling on Congress to pass the Secure America and Orderly Immigration Act, a bill authored by John McCain and Teddy Kennedy that was denounced at the time by conservatives as “amnesty” — and remains anathema to party activists.

grania:" His support was in 2006, before millions more invaders were enabled to enter the US...because of unfair invader competition for jobs."

Leave it to Politico , who is not our friend !
The fact that they had to go back 8 years to look for dirt is like Walker being thrown out of French class for being too loud.
It is all contrived " HorseFeathers" to create division.
Politico is NOT our Friend !

Ain’t nobody good enough to run for anything. That’s my position and I’m sticking with it. The only person who’s platform I totally agree with is me. Well my positions this week that is.

Here’s a link for you.

READ the whole thing.

It’s an interesting piece. As hard as this less than friendly news outlet tries to slam Walker (even at the end where they’re telling you how to interpret Walker’s words - make them up - to fit into their scenario) it just isn’t there. But there is the headline - which is what people absorb.

Here is how we know, because he makes the case for Amnesty and an Open Border in his own words in an interview to a local paper. Couple that with HIS support of McCain's Amnesty bill and you have pretty definitive evidence. I am not interested in how he tries to equivocate on the issue now, I am interested in those unscripted moments where he actually states what he believes:

YouTube Link: Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker, in his own words, endorses a path to citizenship for Illegal Aliens AND an Open Border Policy in July of last year.

I am reminded of Jim Talent’s alledged bioethical sin that caused the evengelicals to stay home when he ran for reelection to the senate.

They gave us the screeching harpy Claire McCackle, just back (I hear) from Cuba.

I'm agreeing with you! I'm saying he can renounce that support BECAUSE it was in 2006, before the adverse impact of the invasion of the US became so much worse and so clear.

If he won't do that, the statement stands. And anyone who supports anything but stopping and reversing the invasion of the US will never get enough conservatives to vote for victory to be possible.

A deeper question is how much you will exaggerate and just plain lie about another candidate to try to get your preferred one the nomination.....

Start giving us what Cruz has done about this, and his strategy to deal with it and maybe I'll start listening to your spamming. You make yourself look ridiculous coming on to every Walker thread and throwing out your spam. Tend to your own candidate, and stop being part of the circular firing squad.

And yes, it DOES matter that the source is polutico!

Sorry, but I am a Tea-Party Conservative, not a Republican who is conservative sometimes.

As such, I don't accept failed analogies such as the one you just posted.

Either give me someone I can vote for, who shares my values, my principles, or I will vote for a Third-Party conservative, if that is what it takes to "hire" someone to actually represent me and my principles.

I know longer play the crappy "Lesser of two evils" game, and will no longer vote for the GOP-E candidate.

Scott Walker is the back-up plan GOP-E candidate. If Jeb fails, at least they have someone who will "toe-the-line" on Amnesty in Walker.

Scott Walker to tea partiers: Let’s focus on taking out Democrats, not our fellow Republicans

I didn't get that from Pollutico. It's not even in the article.

I got that from watching what he does, not what he says.

You might try it sometime.
