In 1619, the Catholic Church came to war with the Protestant Church in Europe. The Thirty Years War cleaned up the corruption, the greed, and the enthusiasm for either religion to be some violent mechanism. Toss in population cleansing, the plague, and the witch trials...by 1700...folks were finished with previous tactics.

So far, Islam has yet to experience a Thirty Years War, and it’s still locked into a 6th century mentality. You can’t rewrite the Quran, fire the religious scholars, or allow people to exit the religion. Until they reach this reform period....they are screwed.
