It Turns Out That DHS Is Focused on Terrorism, But Wait Until You See Who They Consider Terrorists

Fighting terrorism has been in the news this week, with the White House hosting a summit to counter what it calls “violent extremism.” The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) apparently has its attention focused on terrorism, but it may be not the way many Americans might expect.

Earlier this month, the DHS issued an intelligence memo warning law enforcement to be on the lookout for so-called “sovereign citizens.” According to CNN, this is what the term means:

“The government says these are extremists who believe that they can ignore laws and that their individual rights are under attack in routine daily instances such as a traffic stop or being required to obey a court order.

They’ve lashed out against authority in incidents such as one in 2012, in which a father and son were accused of engaging in a shootout with police in Louisiana, in a confrontation that began with an officer pulling them over for a traffic violation. Two officers were killed and several others wounded in the confrontation. The men were sovereign citizen extremists who claimed police had no authority over them.

Among the findings from the Homeland Security intelligence assessment: ‘(Sovereign citizen) violence during 2015 will occur most frequently during routine law enforcement encounters at a suspect’s home, during enforcement stops and at government offices.'”

Reactions on Twitter to the report are mixed, and break down along partisan lines:

This isn’ the first time that DHS has warned about the danger from “right-wing” terrorists. In 2009, it issued a report – commissioned under the Bush administration but released after President Obama’s election – that also sounded an alarm about “sovereign citizens.”

This is typical Obama. Instead of focusing on the radical Islamic terrorist threat of ISIS which is staring us in the face, he comes up with some other "terrorist threat" that he can deflect our attention to and away from the Muslim savages. He has his DHS issue a report that says the biggest terrorist threat is from right-wing American extremists who are unhappy with the oppressive big government that he himself has created.

This is not the first time he has done this. In 2009, in his first year as president, he ordered that deer-in-the-headlights DHS secretary, He-She Napolitano, to issue a similar report indicating that the biggest threat to America are domestic right-wing extremists. These extremists included returning veterans, conservatives, anti-abortionists, people who wanted smaller government and lower taxes, supporters of the 2nd Amendment, religious freedom, etc.
