No government will ever be able to take all of our guns. A significant number of them are buried in unmarked caches, vacuum sealed after being covered in cosmoline, along with ammunition.

I was just looking at violent crime rates in UK vs. USA. They found it a bit difficult as crimes are rated differently between the countries. BUT, they came up with a rate per 100,000 of something like 770 violent crimes in the UK vs. 460 in the USA. (Although the statistics show over 2,000 for the UK, but that includes things like inappropriate touching as a rape, whereas in the US it wouldn’t be.)

So, while gun crimes are less - other crimes are more.

I agree, except when they are the president.

Australia reacted by banning several categories of weapons, a legislative feat which required concerted action by all its states as well as a one-time national program to buy back guns, funded by a temporary tax, which spent $AUS 350 million to purchase 643,000 firearms.

Australian authorities expected 2.5 million firearms would be turned in.

It ain't just Americans not giving up their guns.

Right, which is why Europe has seen dictators come and go. An unarmed citizenry is easy to conquer and subdue.

Obama has come to the US as a dictator, and has not gone.

What good did our guns do us?

P.S. I am as pro-gun as they come.

An acquaintance who had worked many years in a hardware/building supply store enlightened me to how the sales in certain commodities - plaster, PVC pipes, etc. - always rose whenever the government was in a new gun control frenzy. Coinky-dink? Maybe. But the our government didn’t get nearly the results it had hoped for, and this is Canada.

When the citizens have the right to keep and bear arms there is no doubt there will be an increase in gun violence between citizens resulting in death. Some of these deaths are murder and some of them are in self defense.

All of history be it in the time of sticks and stone, sabers and lances, and firearms show that with absolute certainty if the populace does not have the right to bear sticks, stones, sabers, lances and firearms the king, sultan, emir, tyrant or leader of of nation will inflict massive death on its populace to retain power.

If you doubt my words ask the Jew of Germany in 1943, ask the Kulaks of Russia in 1917, as the Chinese that opposed Mao in 1948 (90 million Chinese), Ask 30% of the population of Cambodia in 1977, ask those that resisted Castor of Cuba in the 60s.

Do not waste your time. They are dead at the hands of the state. Most of the above were lined up in front of walls and shot. They were then pushed into ditches and covered up with earth by bulldozers. They were the lucky ones. Others meet fates that were much worse.

Give your guns up to the central government if you trust them. I DO NOT TRUST THEM.

I am of 66 years of age. I have shot weapons since my grandfather had to hold up the end of a rifle for me. My many weapons have never been used in an unlawful manner.

What is the problem with free men and women possessing weapons? !!!

I agree. Or I would prefer : Why Americans should roll back gun control laws in the books and buy more guns.

This title is too defensive.

"Whether the legal response in Britain and Australia lowered their annual toll of gun-related deaths is still debated..."

If the new gun laws had lowered gun related deaths this guy would be presenting the data. If the question is "still debated", it means the laws haven't changed a thing except taken guns out of the hands of law abiding citizens. The criminals still have guns.

Exactly. The chief reason (but not the only reason) we have the second amendment is that the Founding Fathers understood the dangers of having all power in the hands of a central government. Having something to resist an all-powerful, tyrannical government is why we, the common citizens, have the right to own firearms.

Foreigners and liberals (often the same thing) simply can't understand that concept. They simply can't believe their own, wonderful government would want to tyrannize them. Until the day happens, and their gov. does tyrannize them.
