IF you think the air travel experience generally stinks now, consider what it was like before smoking was banned on domestic flights 25 years ago.
Tracy Sear, a flight attendant with US Airways, was looking over some Facebook posts from colleagues recalling those bad old days when a third or more of passengers on any flight puffed away, and cabins were foul with smoke. When I spoke with her the other day, she read one of those posts to me: “Suitcases, uniforms, hair — all stunk from cigarette smoke. And it’s astounding that we didn’t have more cabin fires.”

That was Air Algeria, except smoking was on the right. I've been on Aeroflot too (1980's) and we could smoke in the rear.

So we would have to try to dodge it. In a wool dress, it was less of an issue because you could brush off the ash, but when PSA went to polyester hot pants you’d often get a cigarette burn hole on your pantyhose, and you were lucky not to get a more severe burn on your leg.”

That's an interesting statement. It is my theory that much of the crazy behavior, some of which approaches psychotic behavior on airline flights, is because of oxygen deprivation, just because the airlines desire for squeezing the last penny out of every flight.
And who can forget, you had more outside air in the cabin compared to today. Leftist BS. Smoking was banned at the same time airlines cut back on fresh air allowed in the plane. Less air makes for better fuel economy
When I flew from Chicago to Tulsa, the same thing happened. The cabin became filled with cigarette smoke. After a couple of hours later they served meals. I had a “decent” dinner. They also gave me a two cigarette package to smoke. I gave it to another passenger.
The last time I flew about three years ago it was clean air all the way. No stench, no smell. My eyes were not red, my nose did not run, my skin did not itch and I felt clean!
Life was civilized back then.

My doctor gave me stitches while smoking. He was also the same doctor that delivered me. Wonder if he smoked while I was birthed?
If you thought airport food was good, you have my sympathy as to your other meals.
Airport food is way overpriced (like stadiums and other captive markets) but it is FAR better than it was in the 1960s - with a few notable exceptions. For example, don't even look for food inside security at MCI - Kansas City. One of the worst airport facilities in the country.

I was 16 when they handed out those to me.
When I was a kid the Dr. put his cigarette in an ashtray and gave me a shot in the butt. LOL
